Does that warrant a legit comparison seeing how much game time Quag has actually been getting? This reminds me a lot of Gigi's case coming off an injury last year. He didn't have continuity and was off his game. This year he's back to being himself, playing from the start. Quag just needs CONTINUITY. We may eventually sell him or choose not to, but he will recover his form. For me, he's the perfect striker to have in your team coz of his unpredictability, whether coming off the bench or starting a game. And he's got a lot of skill for somebody playing close to goal.

He is reliable 
You haven't followed him enough to know that he averages 12-13 goals a season and did so cosistently for the last 5 seasons. He has never had an injury as serious as the one he had last season when he was well on course to beat his season average with the best team he's been at. With somebody like Vucinic besides him and Pirlo playing regista, this guy has got a lot of goals in him. Take this season for instance. He's had 2 goals with hardly any consistent gametime. Don't judge him on this season alone. It's unfair. Its like judging Gigi last season and labelling him an error prone keeper. Doesn't work like that at all.
We won't make any progress if we have Quag in the 4-3-3 as the center forward. That's the position from where a huge chunk of the goals have to come and we all know that Quag won't score them, no matter how cool or unpredictable he is.
If he was versatile and could cover the flanks, I'd keep him. But in 4-3-3 he's limited to one single position and to start there he will have to be much better than a 30 year old (that's how old he'll be next year) who has a really bad goal to chance ratio and never scored more than 13 goals in a single serie A season. We already have Matri who scores at least as much as Quag. We need much better goalscorer than both. One of them can stay as a replacement for the CF, but none should be starting if we do want to make that move forward.
P.S: And Conte doesn't play him at all in 4-3-3. Looks like he doesn't fit there too.

Agreed the 433 is not the best formation for him, but then again, it doesn't suit any of our strikers except Vucinic. Matri is scoring, but look at the game time comparison. Come on! How can you judge him on the basis of this season as somebody who is average? He has done a lot more in the half season he played last year an any of our strikers have done almost all of this season. Being 30 next season is not really as much as an issue as we are making it out to be. Vucinic is 29 and his role requires a lot more running. So what?! Are we going to replace him in 2 years time?! I don't think so.

This is what I disagree with. We are all making our judgments without seeing him play, that's my only contention here. If he doesn't fit the plans and it hampers the team, we should sell. But by making our judgments based on a season that is effectively a write off, with the way he's come off the injury, its just wrong to jump to conclusions because Matri has 10 goals and Quag has 2. That is not legit terms for comparison. That said, I'd like to keep both even if it may not happen.

In a 4-3-3 he's limited to the CF position where he works almost as a single striker. He's not used to it. That's why I mentioned his age, because it will be really hard for a 30 year old to get used to an almost completely unknown role to him. A role where he can't show his main strengths.
Even in his preferred position he was never known as a goal machine and in the 4-3-3 which we will almost surely keep using due to the trio of CMS, we will really need a goal machine in the center of our attack.
I don't like what this system did to players like Quag and Krasic but if it's giving results then those two will unfortunately have to be sacrificed.

Did you notice the game in Florence, admitted we were 4 up at the time, but the first guy Conte got on was Quag, followed by Borriello. It may seem like a meaningless move, but he would've persisted with Matri to let him score a goal if that were the case. I don't think its a matter of not having confidence in him, in fact Conte has spoken favourably for Quag all season, I think he's not feeling like his fitness is unto scratch for our high pressing game, which by the way a player like Quag is perfect for. Also, I'm curious to know what you thought of him last year, coz this season you seem to be really gunning for him for some reason. Lost faith like some of the bandwagon.
i did get your point. I totally think being central and isolated doesn't suit him as much, but I just think we are wrong in jumping the gun because we haven't really seen him play in the set up week in and week out. Theres no doubt in my mind that we are going to be reinforcing anyway, but I'm not so sure Conte is done with the 352 entirely which like we discussed earlier suits DP, Quag and Matri more. Anyway, remains to be seen. Early days yet. But whatever's best for the team.
