The difference in experience between the two is big, it wasn't really on display today, but I don't really see how they're comparable. Quagliarella's career at teams such as Sampdoria and Udinese is dwarfed by Del Piero and his time being up against the very best for close to 20 years.

Del Piero is almost 37 and should not start.

Del Piero was a much better player than Quag but that's not true anymore.

Quag is now the better player.

Oh, of course Del Piero is more experienced. What I don't buy is the "need" (though you admitted that was an overstatement) for his particular experience. It's not "needed" by any stretch to play in multiple CL finals or win a bag of scudetti, whatever, to be able to come on and help finish off Siena.

Quagliarella, given he's fit, is more than capable. Particularly if he's coming on in the final third of a game with tired opponents, his dynamism and unpredictability are perfect for this.

I don't believe a fully fit Quag is inferior to Vucinic in anyway. It was unbelievable to see Vucinic play the way he did. He had nothing to contribute. No falling back, no fighting for the ball, no attempts to go in for the header. Its unbelievable to see Quag not get a run in yet. He may not be fully fit, but his game, movement, style and temperament, not to mention what he already showed last season, surely deserves him to be higher up the pegging order. Vucinic doesnt deserve a starting berth by default.

Like I said, it wasn't exactly on display from Del Piero, but I can understand why when the team is struggling to control a match, you bring on a player such as him instead of Quagliarella for a bigger influence. The fact that it was Siena doesn't really matter to me, when the club has just come from a long season of losing against Parma and Lecce amongst others.

I wouldn't be surprised if he left. We already have many strikers and we seem to use the 4-3-3 much more often which makes the opportunities even less for him.

rotation is the keyword. nobody is a starter, everybody will have their playing time.

The amount of movement he provides both when Juventus does and doesn't have possession is still in my memory. Would like him to start if fit midweek.

As a starter in an Elite European club, he was basically finished in 06. It's great that his career continued so well though.

But if we're chasing a counter-attack goal to finish the game, Quags surely.
