I may quit coaching if Real sack me, says Capello

ROME (AFP) - Fabio Capello, who guided Real Madrid to the Spanish league title on Sunday, could quit coaching altogether if the club decide to sack him.

The 61-year-old, who has coached AC Milan and Juventus in Serie A, still has two years left on his Real contract, but his future is far from assured given his fractious relationship with the club's president, Ramon Calderon.

Asked what he would do if Real show him the door, Capello told the Gazzetta dello Sport: "I've already coached the best teams, so I could quit two years early."

Capello said his chances of staying with Real, whom he also helped win the Spanish title in the 1996-97 season, were 50-50.

"It's on the toss of a coin," he said. "All I know is that I would like to stay here to win the Champions League. I have already booked my flight (back to Spain) to return on July 19, because training starts on the 20th."

It seems unimaginable that Calderon would even consider replacing Capello after the Italian engineered a success that seemed unlikely three months ago.

With 11 weeks of the season to go, Real were lying five points adrift of Barcelona. But an unbeaten run since then saw them grab La Liga from under the noses of their bitter rivals.

After Real's 3-1 win over Real Mallorca on Sunday, which clinched a 30th league title for the Spanish giants, Capello confirmed he would be having talks with Calderon this week about his future.

"I want to carry on, but that doesn't depend on me and I've got to talk to the president," Capello said.

If Capello does leave in the summer, he will not be the first Real coach to be shown the door after a stunning success. German coach Jupp Heynckes was sacked just days after Real won the Champions League in 1998.

And Vicente Del Bosque, who has also been mooted as a possible successor to Capello, did not have his contract renewed in the summer of 2003 despite leading Real to two Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles in his four years in charge.

And the players want him to stay too. As I say on the forum (I don't remember the thread) Calderon has a verbal agreement with Schuster. Today he said "there is nothing singed".

I have to say, he is a smart guy, he did what needs to be done to a team like Madrid, take all the critics, put the media on his back in order to leave the players away of all this extra-football thing.

I don't see why everyone hates Capello so much. Sure, it's boring as hell watching your team when he coaches it, but it's not like he's been a royal asshole like so many other hate-ables in football.

Capello Lashes Out At Inter And Sacchi A totally energized Fabio Capello sent out two esplosive blasts in a recent interview he held with Sky Italia.

The first of his two salvos was fired at Serie A champions Inter, who are currently under investigation for a series of financial irregulariteries, allegedly committed ahead of the 2005/2006 season.

The Nerazzurri could possibly be denied a title, or even demoted to Serie B if found guilty, the FIGC have confirmed, and Capello's reaction has been quick.

"It would be great if that Scudetto was taken away from them, especially because of the comments I have had to hear on their ‘Scudetto of honesty’," he said. "I have had enough of this.

" Capello’s angry feelings towards Inter are clearly born out of the Calciopoli Scandal that saw last year’s Scudetto stripped away from ‘his’ Juventus.

Don Fabio's second shot was at his anti-thesis, Arrigo Sacchi, who in a recent interview criticized Capello's brand of football, and stated that he usually won when the leagues were ‘mediocre’.

“It’s a compliment, especially from someone that failed twice in Spain," rapped Capello.

"He first went to Atletico, and was sent home, and the same happened a few years later here at Real. I think that he suffered two heavy punches, and still hasn’t recovered from the shock."

Winning the La Liga title after being denied his Scudetti and then being criticized all year at Madrid, certainly seems to have got him going!

The same goes for Zlatan. anyone who is a rival for Del Piero, is automatically hated by these idiots. As for Capello, he put Del Piero on the bench, and he is officially an asshole because of that. None of these two talked bad about Juventus anyday since their arrival to the club and after their departure till now, it is the opposite actually, they did nothing but praise these club or defend it sometimes. So why these hate? no one has a logical answer, they hate them just for the sake of it. It's all about Del Piero but they refuse to admit.

I read this on Capello in the Mediaset text service & I wondered if it was worth sending a post about it...I'm glad you did. It'll be interesting to see if it can be proven that Inter have indeed "cooked the books." Then, the fun starts...!!!

Well that and the fact there hasn't been a more disgusting football player in history personality wise.

Well, it's a great thing that a powerful man like Capello, to whom many people pay attention, demerits Inter in the press. Thumbs up

Man, Capello was getting bashed on day and night, getting shit results week in week out. All of a sudden everything's going his way, surprisingly, he still hasn't bashed Juventus fans nor the Juventus board (and I highly doubt he will).
