I've only been able to observe Coentrão's performances for the NT in the WC, where he was Portugal's best player. Before then he suffered a bit of anonymity while struggling to be either a left winger or, when Benfica shifted him, to a left back.

A greater risk, but if you can get a guy to play like that on the world stage, your chances are pretty good.

true!! even am not the guy who rates people for WC's and this national tournaments but he really impressed me in the WC but i think we should set our eyes on him with his club. but too late we need a proven LB this year.

I saw him play in the World Cup 2 Benfica pre-season games and he's been immensely impressive. He defends well, can cross well, and he is an intelligent player.

That and he has a metrosexual haircut, which we all know has been the key to the Spain NT's success on the international stage. :faq1:

Who was playing LB?
Cesar Peixoto. A mediocre player who got lucky not to be sent off. He was demolished all night by Silvestre Varela (keep an eye on this guy. AWESOME WINGER with lots of pace, feints, good crossing with both feet.. If you were impressed by Elia at the WC, this guy has the same qualities + end product)

i'm under the impression that regardless of his original position being LW he's just average at it whereas he's better as LB.
I agree. He causes a lot more trouble coming from the back.

If anyone's interested, I'd recommend this:

and the move by Varela that lead to the 2nd goal:

He was named in the Liga Zon Sagres Team of the Week.

He/Tremoulinas are my dream signings for LB. The best available atm
Great call buddy, but one would think that Coentrao has gotta be out of our price range.

Tremoulinas would be much more reasonable I would imagine, and would be an awesome signing IMO. He'd be my first choice right now, all things considered... but we'll never get him.

He's sick but we're going for freaking Bastos :sergio:
Or we're not going for anyone because there is no time. If the signing of Krasic took three months and it wasn't completed, why do you think we would be able to get a decent left back in two weeks? If they really want to buy a left back, we will end up in a desperate buy like we sold Poulsen deperately. Expect a new Molinaro, young and Italian.

With Grosso and DC currently .. I wish we had the old Molinero :sergio:

Whichever of them is better than Grosso, stupidly overpaid, and when he is at his worst, he scores a meaningless goal and everyone forgets he does not help at all defending and even less when we are attacking. Bring Molinaro back, maybe not the best technique, but certainly better defender.
