EuroCalciopoli scandal explodes Saturday 1 December, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A new European Calciopoli scandal could be brewing after UEFA gave Interpol a report alleging at least 15 games were fixed, including Euro 2008 qualifiers.

The report emerged in German magazine ‘Der Spiegel’ that in all 26 matches were under investigation, including 12 UEFA Cup qualifiers, eight Intertoto ties, three Champions League qualifiers, two UEFA Cup matches and two Euro 2008 qualifying encounters.

This season alone there are 15 games dubbed suspicious, plus another 11 played between July 2005 and November 2006.

‘Der Spiegel’ suggests that Asian betting syndicates were behind the manipulation of results in a variety of competitions over the past three campaigns.

The dossier handed in to Interpol mainly refers to games played in Bulgaria, Georgia, Serbia, Croatia and the Baltic states.

When i saw this title my heart nearly stopped. Thank god juventus are not involved this time as we havent been in any of these competitions for more than two years now. I just hope that the azzurri don't get in trouble for anything. That late winner agaisnt Scotland has me a little worried they might get accused.

In Latvia (part of the Baltic States - Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania) there has been talks about our corrupted highest football league for ~3 years now, but in international level nothing has appeared (excluding our captain Astafjevs case before two years, who said to our newspapers that russians before Latvia:Russia tried to buy our players up). I guess that our part in this scandal is Dinaburg:irish club (cant remember name) Intertoto clash, were our players played awful and loosed.

Nah, that was a clean game.

The ref was equally poor to both sides.

I saw it on BBC a little while ago. They were talking about how its possible that someone other than the refree could be bought.Like a key player, with the goalkeeper being on top of the list. That's the best way to fix a match when it comes to the players on the pitch, unless ofcourse you buy an entire team which is next to impossible.

If I were a goalkeeper I would approach them and take money to throw the game. Then I'd fake an injury and the reserve would play. Easy money
