For the draw of the qualification rounds for Euro2008 in Switzerland and Austria, the European nations participating have been divided over 7 pots. Italy is only in pot 2, due to their poor performances in Portugal. Switzerland and Austria, of course, are already qualified as they joint-host the tournament

The draw will take place on 27 January 2006 in the Swiss city of Nyon.

The seedings:
Pot 1: Greece, Netherlands, Portugal, England, Czech Republic, France, Sweden

Pot 2: Germany, Croatia, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Spain, Romania

Pot 3: Serbia & Montenegro, Russia, Denmark, Bulgaria, Norway, Ukraine, Slovakia

Pot 4: Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Ireland, Latvia, Israel, Scotland, Slovenia

Pot 5: Hungary, Finland, Estonia, Wales, Lithuania, Albania, Iceland

Pot 6: Georgia, Macedonia, Belorussia, Armenia, Northern-Ireland, Cyprus, Moldova

Pot 7: Liechtenstein, Azerbeidzjan, Andorra, Malta, Faerøer Islands, Kazachstan, Luxembourg, San Marino

Seeded teams
The qualifying groups will be formed with seeded teams by the UEFA administration. The reigning European champions will always be seeded. The other associations will be classified on the basis of results achieved in the qualifying competition of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, as well as their results in the qualifying competition of the 2002/04 UEFA European Football Championship.
Rankings
The total number of points obtained in the qualifying competitions of both of the aforementioned competitions will then be divided by the number of matches played. The resulting quotient is used to determine the rankings. In the case of an association that qualified automatically for the final tournaments of the competitions in question, the coefficient is calculated on the basis of its results in its most recent qualifying competition.
