But I also think people overrated Croatia. They actually played good football, but it was mostly because of the win against Spain.
Croatia would have made the final (and lose there) IMO, had we passed Portugal. This time the team wasn't overrated, it was a really good team. Portugal was an unlucky opponent. They were smart enough to set themselves ultra defensively, and they were blessed to have Ronaldo who scared the Croatian coach and players enough to force them to play really cautiously, denying Croatia the chance to play their strong weapon - counters. It ended up as a super boring match in which luck decided the winner. But had we won there, Poland and Wales would have been defeated.

He also assisted the winning goal against Croatia.

And scored his penalty kick against Poland.

SO... your point is?
He makes difference vs shit teams. And even against them he scores while playing bad.

But what an athlete, though. I always thought that players like him and Messi couldn't play at the same level at their thirties, cause their physique is their greatest strenght (all of modern football). But he's such an great athlete, it doesen't matter.
I thought it would affect Messi but not Ronaldo tbh.

Hungary, Wales, Croatia are the best teams Portugal has faced in this tournament.

He's doing what's expected of him.

Just like he has the most CL knockout goals of all time.

He scores. And assists. No one gives a shit if he plays a mediocre game outside of that.

One thing to say about Ronaldo... One of the worst free kick takers of all time. Shouldn't be taking them at club or country level. Appalling technique.
Explain me this please...

So many... SO MANY players out there who try to copy Ronaldo's style of PKs :lol2: while the guy always misses. It's incredible and pathethic. I mean, WHY? They copy/paste his shooting 100%, how he holds his hands and when he stops his leg. I just wonder.... why. I'd understand if he was great at it but c'mon, wtf

Why then does Bale mimic the Ronaldo technique? He doesn't do it as well as he used too, but all those knuckle balls are his idea in the first place.

Hmm.. Ronaldo has adapted imo. Less pure speed, less dribbling. He tends to shy away from shoulder to shoulder duels too now.

But he has become a total freak in the air. Wins just about any challenge and his headers are out of this world.

Your're probably right, since I didn't really watch Croatia play. I still think you were the best team against Portugal, but Portugal did nothing.

you aren't exactly disagreeing with Dule there, hon.
No. I'm not. My point is he scores against pretty much every team he faces. Good or bad.

There are exceptions, of course.

His job is to score, and to a lesser extent to assist goals for others. He scores more than anyone, and is top 5ish in the world in assists. What does it matter how he plays outside that. Or if a large number of those goals come against shit teams. Every player in history has a better scoring record against weaker teams.

And I was almost hired for a job.

Seriously though. Isn't he at like 40-something straight FKs without scoring for Portugal? That's absurd.

The funny bit is he was quite good at them for ManU, and in his first season or 2 at Madrid. But his ability just vanished over the last 5-6 years. His conversion rate is appalling.

I think he still has that reputation from early in his career and that's likely why youngsters copy him.
