English reporters getting caught up in it just the same, this is unknown territory for them. It's funny to watch first hand. No one will say it out loud but as far as they are concerned their name is on the trophy. Tournaments so often don't work like that.
Hahaha english think every turnament is theirs until reality hits them, and boom they are out against iceland, germany or whatever.

Serious question:

Why is it the English are so deluded in terms of their national team? Be it their press or fans. What makes them believe every year is their year? Just wondering where this mentality comes from.

Maybe it's no different in France, Germany, Spain or Italy etc. I don't read their news as I don't speak any of the languages besides some German. But looking from the outside, the English just seems so entitled to believe it's always their turn.

Go back to the posts before the EURO, check posts mentioning Jorginho, and you'll realize how many posters know nothing about football.
Those fuckers would have picked McKennie ahead of Jorginho.
and what did Jorginho do besides score a pretty penalty? If Italy had McKennie, they would’ve won in 90 mins

EPL hype and some bizarre arrogance about English players / ignorance towards footballers in leagues that they don't watch.

Then once the hype begins about their team they get easily caught up in it. I think the "it's coming home" starts as a joke every time and they don't truly believe it but as soon as they get to the knock-outs the mentality changes and they genuinely think they will win it.

To be fair to them this is an unbelievable opportunity for them to win a trophy and I see them as favourites. They can get to a final without playing a top team in the entire tournament, haven't let in a goal, the poor opposition has allowed Kane to find form which looked miles away and Italy will be knackered.

Individually the generation at the turn of the millennium was considerably better - Seaman, Campbell, Ferdinand, Neville, A. Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Scholes, Owen, etc, almost ridiculous to compare the two, tbh. But the difference with this squad is that there are younger players with fewer egos, there is no club divide between the players like there was between Arsenal, United and Liverpool. There is no trying to squeeze four top midfielders into a working midfield. That old generation was expected (by the national media) to win the World Cup or Euros. By this tournament people had given up and expectation turned to nothing but hope, because they do have a good team, but since Germany it's gone back into overdrive. But at this stage with Denmark and a potential final to play, at Wembley, I think it's pretty understandable.

The "football's coming home" thing was originally a self-deprecating song and it has been that way for years, it gets rolled out for a bit as soon as England win a couple of games at a tournament. They like to sing stupid and catchy songs, that's English fan culture. They sing it knowing full well that it always ends in disaster, it's almost banter, but maybe this time...

Gets even more absurd if you consider that the British middle and upper classes are supposed to be these cultured understatement types and their culture is built on that british composure and restraint. Must be a big split in their society between Downton Abbey and the CAM ON SCORE SAM FACKING GOALS Shannons

Will the english boo the Danish national anthem, yes or no?

@lgorTudor
I don't think so they hate us more than anybody else

Jorginho is a brilliant player, but I still don't think he'd suit us at this point in time.

I don't see a scenario in which England or Denmark will beat this Italian team. Maybe an early red for Italy.

Try living here. They sing football is coming home whenever they score a goal.

Ive just had to listen to Rio Ferdinand crowning England champions as in his own words: ‘England would beat both Italy and Spain, we are the team in the best form’. I think someone needs to remind him they have been unable to beat Scotland, narrowly beaten Croatia & Czech Republic, beat a very poor German team and a Ukraine team that had no right to be in the latter stages

God I hope Denmark smash them to pieces tomorrow and they protest on the streets at midnight to get Southgate fired

Exactly.

But it seems they always had a big gap from rich to poor. England is still a class society in many ways.
