I think it has to do with the speed that sports in general are played now. Everything is just faster now, so you get more mistakes and less fancy dribbling CMs/SSs
I actually think it's much better now, people just don't appreciate the athleticism that goes into it these days.

England are atrocious.

Southgate shouldn't ever be allowed to coach another team again.

He's so negative. Which is fine if your team finds a way to win with individual quality players, which England have in attack (albeit in poor shape), but as soon as it doesn't work he's dead. Just the way it is.

It'll be interesting if they were to match up with teams like Sweden and Denmark and play the same way. Rather they'll have this usual useless and lethargic midfield possession and try to bore teams to make mistakes.

Look, England are rightly chuffed to beat Germany as it doesn't often happen, but these were two very mediocre teams.

It has to be said that club football is so far ahead of international football. On paper maybe France touches one of the best club sides. But in terms of cohesion and quality of football you can't replicate what players do playing together every week. You can have some of the middling teams playing with fantastic energy and spirit but far inferior quality of players. Maybe Italy are the closest there is to what you see from a big club side on the balance of fluid football and quality of players, but they still fall short. And of course one average performance and you're probably out at the QF stage. I thought both teams today played average and one had to go through.

I can't comment since this version of the game is really all I know since it's all I've witnessed. Some of those old highlight videos do look pretty special though.

There is just no reason to play the way he does. Rashford and Sancho don't even get any minutes. It's ridiculous.

And what is his gameplan exactly? Do nothing until some of his more talented players link up by chance? There is no idea behind any of it.

They'll probably reach the final though and then it's anyone's game really.

It seems that at the end of most games of this tournament, there are no more game plans, and the winning goals scored by first passing the ball to the wings and then score from the crosses. Whether headers or tap-ins, the tired defences have no time to react.

England has the easiest route to the final, they are winning the whole thing.
Not just that, but they are the only team in the first knockout round that played at home (why didn't Italy play in Rome, or the Netherlands in Amsterdam?) and if they make the final they will play 6 out of 7 matches at home.
And what favors them even more, due to the covid rules in Britain and the mandatory 10-day quarantine, England's opponents always play without fans. Even hosts who organized entire tournaments by themselves weren't as favored as England are in this EURO, jointly organized by 11 countries.

The day I always dreaded is materialising right before us.

Readers of the Daily Mail are bringing the World Wars and the EU. The sheer stupidity of some of these England fans is baffling.
