lol Holland had a guy born 1994 playing?
Starting, yeah. Willems, was playing LB. A couple shaky moments at the back, but not bad at all. He picked out 2 or 3 really nice, long diagonal passes to Robben, good athlete - seems pretty fluid, decent power in his shot... definitely has a fair bit of offensive upside. Should be an interesting player to watch develop, first time I've heard of him.
Netherlands should have owned this match. So wasteful, and a bit unlucky, really. The Danes caught a bit of a break on the goal - nice finish though, handled in their own box (inadvertently, exiting the box, no call), Robben hit the post... and the Netherlands just had a ton of chances - especially early. They bury 1 of those and it's a totally different match. I watched the first half closely, and then tuned out for parts of the second cause it was a replay, and I knew nobody was going to score.
Should have been easy two or three to nothing after the first 20 minutes. Robin was off, but there were a couple early plays set up by RvP that really stuck out, beautiful pass over the top to Wesley - all alone, couldn't quite control it off the chest - and a really nice incisive release to Robben down the right side that he should have shot, but got too fancy, trying to make the pass. Generally seemed like that kind of day for them, though... more poor first touches from their top guys then we're used to seeing, generous when they should be selfish, selfish when the pass would have been the better option.
Mama said there would be days like this. I still see them qualifying for the next round.
Edit: Ooh, thought they were playing Germany in the 3rd game. Going to be an uphill battle, to say the least.
