Italy vs. Azerbaijan

The final Euro 2004 qualifiers are upon us. Italy is in a pretty comfortable position to qualify.

Wales - 7 matches, 13 points
Finland - 8 matches, 10 points
S&M - 7 matches, 9 points
Azerbaijan - 7 matches, 4 points

The group scenarios...

- Italy and Wales have clinched at least playoff spots, other 3 teams can't qualify.
- Italy win, Wales win - Italy qualify, Wales go to playoff
- Italy loss, Wales win - Wales qualify, Italy go to playoff
- Italy win, Wales loss - Italy qualify, Wales go to playoff
- Italy draw, Wales draw - Italy qualify, Wales go to playoff
- Italy draw, Wales win - Wales qualify, Italy go to playoff
- Italy loss, Wales draw - tie for group lead
- Italy draw, Wales loss - Italy qualify, Wales go to playoff

I think that is all the scenarios. Should there be a tie between the two teams after the matches are played, these are the tie-breaking rules...

• Number of points obtained in the matches between the teams in question; still tied
• Goal difference resulting from the matches between the teams in question; advantage Italy

I think it should be a nice easy match against the Azeri's. Italy beat them 2-0 last Septmber in Azerbaijan.

Squad will probably be named sometime today, maybe after all the matches have been played. Referee will beStuart Dougal from Scotland.

Italy seems to be quite unpredictable when it comes to beating supposed minnows. With their potential, they could win 6-0, but you never know, it could even end up 1-1. I'm hoping for 3-0 with Tacchi, Miccoli:strong: and DP scoring :thumb:

i want wales to qualify directly. italy would go easily nthrough playoffs while wales would stuggle heavily. and i want to see those minows in the finals.

In the event of a tie for top spot (Italy lose and Wales draw), Italy go through on top because we have a superior head to head with Wales (and a better gtoal difference too).

For this game, DP should be the only one who cannot play. I would therefore play:

the 4231 formation tactic was a very proven successful for Italy.. that tactic is the reason italy have the advantage to qualify from this grup as italy's luck change after they start to use that tactics.... and they have a good clean 7 win run after that..

inzaghi international career was hanging by a thread and at one point has already finished as he cant be anywhere in that tactic... then come Vieri's injury before Wales match and 11th hour inclusion Inzaghi scored a hatric...

thanks to that Trap cannot exclude him anymore meaning byebye 4231..
and wallah.. it takes no time for italy to play crappy again in the next match agaisnt Serbia.... and guess what inzaghi score another undeserve goal...

this may goes agaisnt the run of logic but i hope inzaghi have such a crappy match and did something to retaliate to Trap when he is subsituted so that Trap has a reason to drop him all together... his poke in the box goal is useful but his existance is a cancer to the team in general.... IMO anyway..
