please tell me....why if italy beat bulgaria 3-0 or more and denmark-sweden end as a 2-2 draw...italy will be sacked?it seems too funny.
dont know... i really dont get it either... but it goes like this

lets say that italy beat bulgaria 2-0

and Denmark-Sweden match ends like this:

0-0 = italy through..
1-1 = italy through..
2-2 or more = italy OUT (even if they beat bulgaria for like 52-0)

sooo lets hope that zlatan can kickkkkk asssssss....!

Italy currently have 2 points, behind Sweden and Denmark with 4 points. Bulgaria is eliminated with 0 points. If Italy lose or draw, they will have 2 or 3 points compared to Sweden and Denmark who will have at least 4 points and Italy cannot advance.

Now if Italy win, they will have 5 points. Sweden and Denmark are playing each other so if either of those teams win, the winner will have 7 points, Italy will have 5 and the loser will have 4 so Italy will advance.

That was all quite simple.

Now if Italy wins and Sweden and Denmark were to draw, all three sides would be level with 5 points. To break a three way tie, FIFA creates a "mini-league" discounting all of the matches inolving Bulgaria. So create a table based on Ita-Swe, Ita-Den, Den-Swe. Italys result in the "minileague" is already decided. They scored zero against Denmark and 1 against Sweden. Denmark has not scored yet in the "mini league" and Sweden has scored once. Goal diference for all of the teams will be even in the "minileague" (remember the Denmark Sweden game must end in a tie in order for this tiebreaker to be enacted so all 3 squads will undoubtably be even in goal difference. If they aren't, then either Sweden or Denmark won and Italy would advance) and Italy cannot improve this regardless of their preformance against Bulgaria. So if the mini league is enacted, we know that:

- Italy, Sweden and Denmark will all have to have 2 points in the minileague

- Since all of the matches considered will have been draws, the goal difference will be even for all 3 teams.

So the next tie breaker is goals for. Italy have 1 goal for in the mini and cannot improve this. If Denmark and Sweden are each able to have better then one goal for ( a 2-2 draw, 5-5 draw, 100-100 draw it dosen't matter, then Italy will have 1 goal for, and both Sweden and Denmark will have 2 or more goals for and they will win the tiebreaker and adavance.

Yes, if Swe-Den play a 1-1 Italy has to score at least 3 goals against Bulgaria (and get none of course :D ) :strong:

I have no doubts what so ever that Italy will do the job, just hope Sweden and Denmark don't arrange anything!

FORZA ITALIA! :star:

I think the guys will play it home and win by 3 or 4. Hopefully Del Piero and Zambrotta can confirm their good performances and Sweden beats Danemark.

Azzurri have Zanetti doubt
Sunday 20 June, 2004

Italy may have to do without Cristiano Zanetti for the crucial Group C game against Bulgaria.

The Inter man was expected to come into the side as a replacement for the suspended Gennaro Gattuso.

However, the tough tackling midfielder is struggling with fitness which could rule him out of Tuesday’s game.

That leads many to believe that Stefano Fiore is now in pole position to take Gattuso’s first team shirt.

The inclusion of the Lazio man would provide Trap with a more offensive side for a game that Italy must win by two goals.

Coach Giovanni Trapattoni also has another problem to resolve as captain Fabio Cannavaro is suspended.

Parma youngster Matteo Ferrari is a contender to step into defence but Marco Materazzi is set to get the nod.

The Inter man is considered as a better option to counter the threat of Bulgaria striker Dimitar Berbatov.

Italy are expected to play a similar system to the one that drew 1-1 with Sweden on Friday night.

Italy probable: Buffon; Panucci, Nesta, Materazzi, Zambrotta; Perrotta, Pirlo, Fiore; Del Piero, Cassano; Vieri.

This is what makes me mad about Trap. Zanetti has been having fitness troubles ALL season, he wasn't 100% fit to play Vs Denmark but Trap chose him anyway and he wasn't fit V Sweden and now he's in doubt for the Bulgaria match! Zanetti should'nt of been chosen in the first place because he's not good enough let alone the fact he isn't fit!
