Del Piero Wary Of Champions League Opposition

Juventus captain, Alessandro Del Piero, believes that his side cannot relax when they play in the Champions League preliminaries, even though they face easy opposition.

The Bianconeri were paired with either Tampere or Artmedia for the next round of Europe's elite club competition.

On paper it seems as if the Old Lady will stroll to victory, but Del Piero is not so sure.

“A sigh of relief as a result of the draw? No, we will only breate a sigh of relief when we get through to the next round,” said Del Piero.

“We have an ample squad and it will be the pitch that will tell us if we are the better team.”

Juve take on Arsenal this weekend in the Emirates Cup and they are likely to use the tournament as practice for their Champions League adventures.

Del Piero finished as Serie A’s top scorer last term and he is hoping to fire his side to glory.

The Bianconeri have been in impressive form during pre-season and they are keen to silence their critics with victory in London.

Lippi tips Inter for Euro glory

Marcello Lippi believes either an Italian or English club will lift the Champions League this season.

“Inter and Manchester United are in pole position,” said the Azzurri boss. “Everyone at the Nerazzurri, from President Massimo Moratti to the kit staff, have this one objective in their minds.

“We should let Jose Mourinho do his work, as he is a great Coach and with the full squad at his disposal, this is a very strong side.

“However, they’ll need to reorganise quickly. Losing Marco Materazzi to injury was a heavy blow, while there are question marks over Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s knee, Patrick Vieira’s fragility, the recovery time of Ivan Cordoba and Walter Samuel.”

The other Serie A club that Lippi is tipping for the trophy is Roma, who reached the quarter-final last term.

“With Adrian Mutu, they would have been perfect. Now I understand Luciano Spalletti’s doubts in trying to find an alternative, but Roma remain one of the teams worthy of the Champions League Final, especially if they resolve the Alberto Aquilani situation quickly.”

Aquilani’s contract renegotiations are dragging on with Inter and Juventus showing an interest in taking advantage.

Meanwhile, Francesco Totti is a month ahead of schedule following knee ligament surgery and could make his comeback in a fortnight.

“Francesco is a phenomenon,” continued Lippi. “Nobody in the world manages to heal as quickly as he does. With the best Totti, Roma are in the second row of the grid along with Juventus, Barcelona, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.”

Mutu’s decision to stay with Fiorentina boosts the Viola’s Champions League ambitions.

“Along with Alberto Gilardino, Mutu forms one of the deadliest strike partnerships. Cesare Prandelli has a good solid racing car at his disposal.

“With young talents set for a great future like Riccardo Montolivo, Fiorentina are one of the dark horses for this tournament.”

Juventus are back in the competition after the Calciopoli scandal and a stint in Serie B.

“Pavel Nedved, Ale Del Piero and Mauro Camoranesi have that glint in their eye. When the old guard is in good shape, it means everything is going just fine.

"Juve are tough, Amauri is a born hitman and Christian Poulsen will be one of the revelations. Juve will once again scare Europe.”

The same old story about inter being the favourites in europe keep repeating itself over and over again since i first started watching serie A 16 years ago and nothing changed. Inter are simply losers they probably have a curse or something on their asses. It's not a problem of not having WC players (which they always had) or a top coach. It's the fucked up mentality of the whole club.....

Glasgow Rangers are out of Champions League.

Even though i didn't really care if they'll be eliminated or not, i'm glad for Juve Red :D

This should also be a warning for Juve. Kaunas were huge outsiders in this clash and everyone expected Rangers (eventhough they are nothing special) to eliminate them easily.

Better than Basel who is better than Goteborg? :D

It will be sweet if Goteborg qualify, and draw in Juve's group, but we are only dreaming :touched:
