Ibrox could well witness a real nerve-jangler of an evening on Wednesday as Rangers bid to secure the draw at home to Lyon that will hand them a place in the Champions League knockout phase.
Having done so well to beat Stuttgart and, in the away fixture, Lyon earlier in their Group E campaign, Walter Smith’s men will be determined to finish the job and ensure a full complement of six British sides in the last 16.
Arsenal and Manchester United are also in action on Wednesday for the conclusion of the group phase, with The Gunners hoping to overhaul Sevilla at the top of Group H and Sir Alex Ferguson’s side looking to become only the fifth team to finish the group stages with a 100 percent record.
Barcelona, Roma and Inter are also safely through to the last 16, meaning the only other issue to be resolved, other than who takes the consolation of Uefa Cup places, is whether Fenerbahce or PSV Eindhoven will finish second in Group G.

Frank Rijkaard’s Barcelona have already finished in pole position but have the chance to make history through the prodigious talent of Bojan Krkic, as the Spain youth international can become the youngest ever Champions League goalscorer at the age of 17 years and 105 days if he nets against Stuttgart.
The real issue in Group A is the race for second place and the permutations are clear-cut. Win or draw and Rangers go through, but a defeat will condemn them to the Uefa Cup and take Lyon through to the knockout stages.

Manchester United are sitting pretty at the top of the table and will finish there whatever the result of their game at Roma, explaining Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to rest a number of his top stars.
The Italians are also guaranteed of finishing in second place, with Sporting’s game against Dynamo Kiev another dead rubber as the Portuguese side have Uefa Cup football in the bag.

A win at home to bottom side CSKA Moscow will see Fenerbahce safely through to the last 16, whilst a draw will also be enough should PSV Eindhoven fail to win at home to table-toppers Inter.
Fener can also afford to lose if PSV only draw against the Serie A champions, as they possess a superior head-to-head record against the Dutch after defeating them 1-0 and drawing 0-0.

Sevilla hold all the aces as they know a victory at Slavia Prague will give them top spot ahead of Premier League club Arsenal.
If Sevilla slip up with a draw or defeat, then The Gunners will overtake them at the top with a home win over Steaua Bucharest.
Slavia have already secured Uefa Cup football as they are currently four points ahead of bottom club Steaua.

How on earth did Lazio qualify for champions league? They are awful and for the manager to say they went out with dignity just goes to show what kind of ambition they have.
Why would a team with any kinda purpose have a 43 year old in goal for a long period of time?
Yes they have injuries but no marquee player at all to speak of in their squad.
Then again Empoli qualified for Europe this season. It just goes to show how poor serieA was last season.
Its easy to say well done Liverpool but they should never have been in that position anyway as that was a shite group.
They might get Barcelona again
