we have inter, roma, viola and milan to challenge. Beside referees ofcourse. After seeing those 2 pens what were awarded today, i really think this was just the start. In any other year top 4 might have even been likely, but viola are doing very well this year, mutu in great form, milan will bounce back eventually as well, or win CL again this year to qualify for next years competition.

well Italy are a large footballing country..you naturally will only support one club..So do you think that people from Benin for example should only support their hometown club..they cant support both their hometown club and Juve??
the point is you can follow as many teams as you want, enjoy the experience, appreciate the good football, but the bottom line is you only are a real supporter of your own team. If you say "I support Barca & Juve, but would cheer Juve when they play" your a Juve fan who likes watching Barca.

Champions League - European Power Rankings

There is plenty of movement in our list of Europe's top clubs after a frenetic midweek of action across the continent, but Arsenal are still on top.

We take into account both domestic and Champions League performance, plus the relative difficulty of each team's league, to determine who is the top side around.

The cream is starting to rise to the top, with the top seven all hailing from Europe's three leading leagues - England, Spain and Italy.

Chelsea's resurgence under Avram Grant sees them shoot up seven places to sixth, while Roma are also up seven. Real Madrid have nudged in front of rivals Barcelona to go third.

Valencia are the biggest losers, with their recent tailspin seeing them drop out of the top 10. Defending Champions League winners Milan are up four thanks to a win against Shakhtar Donetsk but are still a lowly 12th.

Three teams leap into the top 20, with Benfica crashing into 13th, Werder Bremen going 17th and Besiktas 19th.

See below for an explanation of the scoring system. (Last week's positions in brackets)

1 (1) Arsenal - 28.00

2 (3) Manchester United - 26.82

3 (5) Real Madrid - 24.17

4 (2) Barcelona - 22.78

5 (10) Internazionale - 22.00

6 (13) Chelsea - 21.21

7 (14) Roma - 20.50

8 (6) Porto - 20.33

9 (7) Shakhtar Donetsk - 18.64

10 (8) Rangers - 18.14

11 (4) Valencia - 18.00

12 (16) Milan - 17.75

13 (-) Benfica - 17.00

14 (9) Liverpool - 17.00

15 (12) Fenerbahce - 16.70

16 (19) Sevilla - 16.67

17 (-) Werder Bremen - 16.64

18 (18) Rosenborg - 15.99

19 (-) Besiktas - 15.59

20 (11) Marseille - 15.00

HOW IT WORKS

Scores are based on points per game in domestic league and European games.

Domestic points per game is multiplied by the league coefficient - either 3, 4 or 5 - with teams in stronger leagues getting more credit.

European victories are counted as three points for a win whether in league stage or not. They are all multiplied by a coefficient of 5.

League coefficients:

England, Spain, Italy = 5

Germany, Portugal, France = 4

Others = 3

Example: Arsenal

26 points from 10 Premier League games = 2.6 points per game.

Multiplied by league coefficient of five - 2.6 x 5 = 13.

15 points from 5 Champions League games (including qualifying) = 3 points per game.

Multiplied by European coefficient of five - 15

Total score = 13 + 15 = 28.00

so basically you're saying all those juve fans in asia, africa and europe arent real juve fans..because i can assure you everybody supports his hometown club and a european club..at least thats the case in asia and africa..

PS: Dont get me wrong i dont believe its ok to support two teams like Barca and Juve together.

I think you can only support 1 team, but follow and admire a couple more, but to claim to be a real fan of more than 1 club is just rubbish. Supporting a club is about always wanting that club to win, always wanting the best, & as soon as you dont, surely you cant be a true fan?

when you are a fan ie juve fan, you stick through the good and the bad, admiring another team is just admiring one or two or more of their current players or their current philosophy, so essentially you can only be a fan of one team

Btw, what do you guys think of Celtic vs Benfica, want to bet on this game, and i'd like to see some predictions.
Celtic - Benfica 2.00 - 4.10
I feel no need to be special. When Celtic play at home in Europe, they are likely winners (2.00). Bigger fish than Benfica have been caught, and Benfica by the way, were crushed, 0-3, last year.
Killen was used as the lone striker in Portugal, two weeks ago, but fit again Vennegoor of Hesselink played up front together with S. McDonald at the weekend. Surely Celtic will employ two strikers for this match. Midfielder Nakamura has no more than a 50/50 chance of playing.
Benfica were 1-0 winners vs. Celtic in Portugal, but they should have won by a larger margin. Cardozo missed a couple of unbelievable scoring chances. Nuno Gomes could not play in the first game, but he will be back for this match. Celtic then! (2.00).

You can read the other predictions , here.

Maybe this helps you a bit.

CL Preview: Celtic – SL Benfica'

What: Uefa Champions League Group D
Who: Celtic (4th, 3/9pts) v Benfica (3rd, 3/9pts)
When: Tuesday, November 6, 2007, kick-off 19:45 local (BST)
Where: Celtic Park, Glasgow

With both AC Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk topping the Group D table, tomorrow’s match between Celtic and Benfica could determine who challenges the top two for a place in the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

The Portuguese side were victorious over Celtic in the reverse fixture two weeks ago, but Benfica manager, Jose Antonio Camacho, knows it will be a tough test.

"Celtic will be a physically strong team and we have to match them," said the former Real Madrid and Spain star.

"It's going to be a hard game, a man's game. We won't be playing for a draw, we will be playing to win and we will be doing our best to win."

Despite Celtic’s mixed form in the Champions League, manager Gordon Strachan has been pleased with the Hoops’ overall start to the season.

“I’m happier this year than I was at this stage last season,” he said. “We’re top of the league, we’re scoring more goals, I feel content and I like what I’m seeing. I’m alright – I’ve definitely been in worse positions.

“At the moment, we’re scoring an average of 2.9 goals per game. Last season at this time it was 1.7 goals per game. That’s a huge increase and we’ve had the ability to do that.

“The top scorer in the league is Scott McDonald. The second top scorer, equal with other players, is Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

“Up to now, we’ve scored 32 goals in the league. If you continue at that rate, you’ll score over 100 goals in the season. Last season, we scored 66 goals in the league and we’re almost halfway there after 11 games.”

Strachan seems settled in his team selection, but seems more concerned with the press coverage that he and his side regularly receive.

"What happens is that players politely answer questions from you people and it's amazing the spin that goes on that," Strachan told reporters at a club press conference.

"You people sometimes are like those serial killers you see in films who send out these horrible messages.

"The serial killer who cuts out the words 'I am going to get you' or 'your wife is next'. You are the very same."

I hope what I have written is OK, Mr Strachan!

TEAM NEWS

Celtic

Shunsuke Nakamura is expected to miss the game, after sitting out Celtic’s last two matches with a knee injury. Massimo Donati is likely to return in midfield, after missing out against Kilmarnock at the weekend. Scott Brown faces suspension if booked.

Squad: Boruc, Caldwell, Naylor, Kennedy, McManus, Jarosik, Hartley, Scott Brown, McGeady, McDonald, Vennegoor of Hesselink, Mark Brown, Sno, O'Dea, O'Brien, Killen, Donati, Riordan.

Last Starting XI: Boruc, Caldwell, Naylor, Kennedy, McManus, Jarosik, Hartley, Scott Brown, McGeady, McDonald, Vennegoor of Hesselink.

Benfica

Nuno Gomes is expected to return, after he missed the Celtic game at The Stadium of Light last month. Oscar Cardozo will be suspended if booked.

Squad: Quim, Pereira, Luisao, Katsouranis, Leo, Nuno Assis, Di Maria, Binya, Rui Costa, Rodriguez, Luis Felipe, Bergessio, Adu, Cardozo. Subs Not Used: Butt, Edcarlos, Zoro, Ribeiro.

Last Starting XI: Quim, Pereira, Luisao, Katsouranis, Leo, Nuno Assis, Binya, Rui Costa, Rodriguez, Bergessio, Cardozo.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Celtic: Artur Boruc – Despite the Polish goalkeeper’s mistake at the weekend against Kilmarnock and speculation surrounding him reportedly wanting to buy out his contract, Boruc remains a key player. Fans will be expectant of a result at Celtic Park and Boruc’s performance will be key in grinding out a result for the home side.

Benfica – Nuno Gomes The experienced Portuguese international is now entering the twilight of his career at 31, but his experience could prove vital in overthrowing Celtic. In recent years the striker has faced stiff competition for a first team place from Francisco Fonseca, Fabrizio Miccolo and Pedro Mantorras, but Gomes’ work rate and good positional play could provide Benfica with that extra attacking edge to seal victory.

PREDICTION

Both sides will be keen to avoid conceding, in a game that could ultimately decide their Champions League future. Celtic’s ability to score freely in the Scottish Premier League will hearten the Glasgow side, but the gulf in quality between the two competitions may prove too great for Celtic. Benfica’s victory over Pacos de Ferreira will give the Portuguese side confidence ahead of the clash, but it will be hard to separate the two sides, who have both been struggling to find a clinical edge in the Champions League.

Celtic 1 Benfica 1
