I watched the game live, and I witness how Liverpool attacked Sao Paulo during the entire 2nd half when they were trailing behind, this is something Capello lacks in his tactics. Overall both teams did a good performance and it was an entertaining game.

Bremen make Polenz professional

UEFA Champions League contenders Werder Bremen have secured the services of teenaged striker Jerome Polenz until 2009.

Mainz debut
The 19-year-old has been with the German club since 2002 and made his Bundesliga debut in Saturday's 4-2 league win against 1. FSV Mainz 05. Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf has high hopes for the German youth international, who helped his country reach the 2004/05 UEFA European Under-19 Championship semi-finals. "Jerome has continuously improved and we want to support him on his way," he said.

Striking talent
Against Mainz, Polenz replaced Nelson Valdez five minutes from time. The versatile forward, who has scored seven goals in 20 games for Bremen's third division reserve side this season, is to be integrated into the first team though he will still be available for the reserves. Polenz has been added to Bremen's squad for the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds, with Juventus the opposition in the last 16 on 22 February and 7 March.

Professional Contract For Polenz

Werder Bremen have closed the deal on a professional contract with young talent Jerome Polenz, keeping him tied to the club until 30.06.2009. The 19 year old who made his Bundesliga debut on Saturday when he was introduced as a substitute in the 85th minute against Mainz, used the first half of the season to play his way into the first team. "He has been continually improving and it's clear to see that he knows where he's going. We want to support him in that", said coach Thomas Schaaf.

Jerome Polenz will continue to gather experience in the reserve team. The all-rounder, who has appeared in the Under 23 side as a right winger as well as a striker, is Bremens top scorer in the Regionalliga North. He has scored seven times in twenty games this season. Polenz arrived at the Weser Stadium in 2002 from Tennis Borussia Berlin.

Bremen Wait on Klose call

Thursday, 26 January 2006

Werder Bremen have suffered a major blow ahead of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Juventus with the news that Germany striker Miroslav Klose will be sidelined for at least three weeks with a shoulder injury.

Race against time
Klose sustained a tendon injury to his right shoulder during Wednesday night's 3-1 German Cup quarter-final defeat on a frozen pitch at FC St. Pauli. If the upset of losing to third-division opponents was not enough, Bremen now face the prospect of being without their centre-forward for the first-leg meeting with Juventus at the Weserstadion on 22 February. "I just hope to get back to full fitness as quickly as possible," said the 27-year-old.

Setback for Schaaf
However, with Bremen's Bundesliga campaign resuming on Sunday at DSC Arminia Bielefeld, coach Thomas Schaaf lamented the loss of a key player. "We are glad he doesn't need an operation, but he will still be out for weeks. This hurts."
