Predictions:

1. ESPN U.S. will not show any teams from Italy or Germany this next round.

2. Tommy Smyth will have an on-air orgasm over Liverpool, who should readily defeat Benfica, resulting in his emergency hospitalization.

Barca, Juve joint favourites to win Champions League.
Friday 16th December 2005 12:10 | By Barcelona 24-7

LONDON, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Barcelona and Juventus were made joint favourites to win the Champions League after the draw for the first knockout stage on Friday.

Juventus, who play Werder Bremen, and 1986 champions Barcelona, who were drawn against Chelsea in the tie of the round, were made 5/1 favourites by British bookmakers William HIll.

Well, might as well start predictions:

Chelsea - Barcelona
Real Madrid - Arsenal
Bremen - Juventus
Bayern - Milan
PSV - Lyon
Ajax - Internazionale
Benfica - Liverpool
Rangers - Villareal
Exactly as I would have it:agree:

Of course Barcelona vs Chelsea rematch is causing all the hype, but I think the closest ties are Milan/Bayern (because Milan are so bad this year but Bayern's level has dropped) and Lyon vs PSV because Guus Hiddink is a man who can never be underestimated.

Last year for example, 5 group winners proceeded to the QF's. The bookmakers who aren't often wrong had 6 favourites who went through correctly (the 5 group winners and correctly predicted Liverpool as favourite to group winner Leverkusen). The surprises were Bayern beating Arsenal and PSV knocking out Monaco. A few ties such as Juve/Real and Barca/Chelsea were level odds too. So looking at the published odds already, and assuming at least 1 or 2 favourites will lose - then who will they be?

Ajax(3.50) vs Inter Milan(1.28)
Bayern Munich(2.20) vs AC Milan(1.61)
Benfica(3.25) vs Liverpool(1.33)
Chelsea(1.90) vs Barcelona(1.83)
PSV(2.75) vs Lyon(1.40)
Rangers(3.00) vs Villarreal(1.36)
Real Madrid(1.83) vs Arsenal(1.90)
Werder Bremen(3.25) vs Juventus(1.33)

Right now Chelsea seem nailed on to be one of the underdogs. Can't decide between Bayern or PSV as the other though.

3.Tommy Smyth is then incredibly resuscitated when David Beckham, Michael Owen, and the entire English National team come to his bedside and rub their tallywhackers in his old onion bag.

I always preferred playing away first.

With all due respect to Bremen, I'd be extremely upset if Juventus doesnt get past them (unless we are terribly unlucky, god forbid). I just hope we wont be too overconfident

Come on Juventus! The Champions League trophy gets nearer to us!

bremen lost to barca, they lost to lyon they.......come on, we are the champions of seria a.....i am happy about this draw....we might get the win from away game also.....

I predict a big team vs small team clash......they always look so small, we will dominate and have the posetion......come on. if we won against bundesliga champion, then we will win against bremen also.....

I think lyon will win this time against psv.....psv is also a small team....If they aint gona make a massive transfer in the winter, i think lyon will go through....they are in the great mood right now....and theyr new players(carew) have been fit to the team very well.....i think Carew is very underrated.... psv is missing some players......they won against milan more because of milan had a hard seria a game.....After a big game in seria a (juve, inter, fiorentina) they look weaker......

What I think right now:

Real Madrid - Arsenal -------------> Arsenal

Werder Bremen - Juventus -------------> Juventus

AC milan - Bayern Munich ---------- Bayern Munich

Inter - Ajax -------------> Inter

Lyon - PSV ---------> Lyon

Barcelona - Chelsea ----------------> Barcelona

Benfica - Liverpool --------------> Liverpool

Rangers - Villareall --------------------> Villareal

Trezeguet: The Year Of The Revenge
12/16/2005

The French striker has been scoring non-stop this season following an injury-plagued year.
David Trezeguet seems to have put his injury problems behind him as the Juve attacker has been extremely impressive this season, scoring almost an average of one goal per match.

“For me this is an important year. Last year an injury kept me on the sidelines for a long time. This season I want to get my revenge on what I lived last year, I want to play the highest number of matches and score many goals.”

I agree with all of those, except for Ajax-Inter.. I have a feeling that Ajax will trump them... :confused:
