Lyon.....such a great team in my eyes...
TBH Lyon showed more character and class than I expected them to tonight. One of their best players only recently left the club but they were still able to give perhaps the world's biggest team a schooling.

Magnificent stuff :thumb:

Of course he is! Anyone with a price tag is a better player. We never paid a thing for jonathan zebina.

No matter what remember this!

Real-Brazil may have the best players in the world (on paper) but they'll never have the best team!!
also on paper is real madrid nowere vs Juventus.

is cassilias better than buffon? no

is real defends better than Juventus defends?? HELL NO!

do you wanne change ower mega middfield with reals middfiled? HELLLLLLLLLLLL NO!

and i dont wanne compare zlatan trezeguet delpiero and mutu to ronaldo raul and robinho.
that would be a shame for ower strikers.

yea i mean it ok all those media shit about robinho (ok he is 21 but zlatan is just 1year older)
there is no way robinho is gowing to make the same inpact at real like zlatan did at Juventus.(still he is a great player but i am very happy that we stick to ower zlatan ibrahimoviccccc)
there is no way that raul is a better finisher than TREZEGUET!
and Delpiero have always won againts Ronaldo ,i am still waiting in a Final Brazil - italia and than again Delpiero will win ;)

and you are right Moggi D'Messiah they will never have the best team ;) ! because we have :D :strong:

Artmedia 0 - 1 Inter
Cruz 17 (I)
Tehelne Pole Stadium, Bratislava

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juan Sebastian Veron's red card nearly cost Inter dearly, but a Julio Cruz goal proved enough to earn a win away to Artmedia.

Having crushed Shakhtar Donetsk in the preliminary round, Inter were the clear favourites to top Group H and started out against perhaps the weakest side on paper. Slovaks Artmedia Bratislava were making their Champions League debut in front of the home fans.

Roberto Mancini made changes from Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Palermo, leaving David Pizarro and Obafemi Martins on the bench in favour of Luis Figo and Julio Cruz, while Walter Samuel returned after sitting out a three-match Serie A ban.

Pierre Wome's fierce shot whistled just wide of the woodwork, but the early pressure failed to create any real scoring opportunities until the 17th minute, when they broke the deadlock. Adriano ran down the left flank on a Dejan Stankovic pass and rolled across for Cruz, who came sliding in for the finish.

Cristiano Zanetti was booked after two crunching challenges in quick succession on Durica and Kozak.

Inter really should have doubled their lead on 38 minutes when Adriano set up Cruz in front of goal, but the Argentine hesitated and the chance went begging. Adriano also went close in first half stoppages on a Luis Figo pass, but the ball got caught up in his legs and the grateful goalkeeper gathered.

Artmedia were more aggressive after the break and caused problems with Halenar before a long-range Petras strike went over. But Inter wasted another golden opportunity to put the result beyond doubt, as Stankovic threaded through for Adriano and he blasted off target from the penalty spot.

Inter were made to regret those errors, as moments later they were left in 10 men. Juan Sebastian Veron had been booked in the first half for a sliding challenge and the referee rather harshly showed him a second yellow card for taking a free kick before the whistle had been blown. It was a very fiscal decision from the French official and one that left the Nerazzurri in a tricky position for the final half-hour.

Adriano tried to make the result safe with a run and shot that whistled past the upright, but Artmedia went even closer with a Hartig diving header that skimmed the woodwork from a corner kick.

Mancini threw on David Pizarro for Cruz to strengthen the midfield and on 67 minutes Adriano's stunning free kick slammed the inside of the post in an agonising moment for the Inter fans.

L'Imperatore fired another shot high and Pizarro's attempt was charged down, but Artmedia substitute Konecny tested Julio Cesar within seconds of stepping on to the pitch.

Obafemi Martins replaced Figo for the final nine minutes, as Mancini saw attack as the best form of defence, even in 10 men. There was more tension for Julio Cesar, as five minutes from time he parried a difficult Halenar strike from point blank range. Inter held on for the victory in Bratislava.

And there u have it, Inter changing their team again, with Cambiasso on bench for Zanetti and Cruz for Martins. Since J.Zanetti is injured, I guess some1 is shifted to the right, not sure who it is, could be Cordoba. Another unconvincing win for Inter.
Veron was sent off in the 56th minute.

I think Robinho will play a major role with "Royal Marketing".

I just hope Luxemburgo drop Raúl and then the Madrid attack will be:

Ronaldo - Robinho

If Robinho start to play every week, he will improve a lot. The problem is not with the talent, but how Luxemburgo will use Robinho.

But, it's unlikely that Raúl will be droped... :frown:

The funny thing is when Luxemburgo was working here in Brazil he always said he never had any fear of drop a famous player... New country, new club... new ideas...

CL Wrap: Real Humbled, Champions Off To Winning Start
9/13/2005 10:41:00 PM
Real Madrid got their Champions League campaign off to the worst possible start with a 3-0 defeat away to Lyon.
John Carew gave the French club the lead on 21 minutes, and Juninho doubled Lyon’s advantage not long later.

Sylvain Wiltord made it 3-0 on the half-hour mark and there was even time for Juninho to miss a penalty before half-time. Real kept a clean sheet in the second-half but the defeat will nonetheless increase the pressure on coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo who saw his side lose 3-2 to Celta Vigo at the weekend.

In the group’s other game, Olympiacos went down to a surprise 3-1 defeat to Rosenborg. An Alejandro Lago own-goal put the Greeks 1-0 ahead, but Rosenborg struck back through Per Skjelbred, Dimitrios Mavrogenedis (o.g), and Oyvind Storflor.

Champions Liverpool got off to a winning start with a 2-1 victory at Betis. Early goals from Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Luis Garcia put the Reds 2-0 up and although Arzu netted in the second-half it wasn’t enough for the Spanish giants.

In the group’s other game Chelsea defeated Anderlecht 1-0 thanks to a Frank Lampard free-kick.

In Group E late gaols from Kaka and Andri Shevchenko saw Milan record a 3-1 win over Fenerbahce at the San Siro. Kaka had given Milan a first-half lead but a 63rd minute penalty from Alex had pegged the rossoneri back.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink netted the only goal as PSV Eindhoven defeated Schalke 1-0 in the other match.

In Group H Julio Cruz scored as Inter won 1-0 away to Artmedia Bratislava. Juan Veron was sent-off in the second-half for the nerazzurri.

There was a five-goal thriller in the other match as Rangers beat Porto 3-2 at Ibrox. Peter Lovenkrands gave the Scots the lead, only for Kleper Pepe to equalise. Dado Prso restored Rangers’ lead but Pepe notched again for 2-2. Sotirios Kyrgiakos won the game for Rangers with an 85th minute strike.

CL Preview: Werder Bremen v Barcelona (Group C)
9/14/2005 5:17:00 AM
Werder Bremen are brimming with confidence ahead of their meeting with Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday and both sides promising to go and attack.
The Bundesliga club go into the match on the back of a 5-1 away win at Kaiserslautern, but the suspension to striker Miroslav Klose will be a serious blow to their plans.

But coach Thomas Schaaf believes that his side can open up Barça’s mean defence by playing their normal style.

"We will stick to our method of offering attacking football," he said.

"If we sit back and wait for such an opponent to simply fire us away, then it will happen quickly."

After being hammered 10-2 on aggregate by Lyon in the same competition last term, Werder will be aiming to lay that ghost to rest with by beating Barça and sending a message out that they are ready for the top level of European football.

With Klose missing, Schaaf will name Paraguayan striker Nelson Valdez in his place, rather than attempt to stop the Catalan club’s attacking options in the middle by fielding a fifth midfielder.

Werder qualified to reach the group stages of the Champions League after coming the qualifying round last month where they defeated Basle 5-1 on aggregate.

The German club tasted victory against Spanish opposition last season when they beat Valencia home and away in the group stages of the tournament, helping to eliminate Los Ché.

Barcelona are on of the favourites to lift the trophy in Paris next spring and will harbour no intention of going to the Ruhr to play for a draw.

The attacking tactics have seen them win many plaudits, but along with scoring the most goals in their domestic league last season, the team also conceded the fewest goals.

Frank Rijkaard is not one for changing his system to suit the opponent, but he does believe that his midfielders will have to work hard to cut off the supply line to Werder’s strikers.

"Their strikers are good with their heads, but this does not worrying me," the Dutchman said.

"We are not looking at dealing with the height to stop them from developing their play but rather the formula.

"Our planning will remain the same. We will try to be together on the pitch and surprise the opponent.

"Our mentality is always to win."

The fact that Barça are facing an opponent who will open up and play attacking football will come as a refreshing change after they have faced two clubs in their opening league games that have packed their defence.

After a goalless draw in Alavés, Rijkaard’s side beat Mallorca at the weekend with two goals from Samuel Eto’o.

But the games were not spectacles as one side sat back and packed their penalty area, while the other was left to find a way of breaking it down.

TEAM NEWS

Werder Bremen: The only change that the German side will have to make is up front, where Nelson Valdez will come into partner Ivan Klasnic in place of the suspended Miroslav Klose, who was sent off in the qualifying round against Basle.

Barcelona: Frank Rijkaard is set to name the same team that beat Mallorca at the weekend and leave Mark Van Bommel, who has yet to start in a competitive match for the club since joining in the summer, and Edmilson on the bench.

PROBABLE LINE-UPS

Werder Bremen: Reinke; Owomoyela, Pasanen, Naldo, Schulz; Baumann; Frings, Borowski; Micoud; Klasnic, Valdez

Barcelona: Valdés, Belletti, Oleguer, Puyol, Gio, Xavi, Márquez, Deco, Giuly, Ronaldinho, Eto’o

PREDICTION

Although both sides claim that they are preparing to play attacking football, the first one to score is likely to close up shop and soak up the pressure. Barcelona have yet to face a side that will truly test their defence this season and Werder’s direct style of play may come as a shock. But they have a sterdy back line and truly use attack as the first line of defence, so the game could swing both ways. In an entertaining battle both sides will be happy with a point from the opening match in the group.

Werder Bremen 2 - 2 Barcelona
