Gila has Champions dream Saturday 22 October, 2005

Alberto Gilardino dreams of meeting Juventus in the Champions League Final and taking Milan to victory.
“My dream is to reach the European Cup Final with this great team. It would be fantastic, and difficult, but we have the quality to get there. I hope our opponents would Juve,” said the £17m summer signing.
Gilardino has stuttered since making the move from Parma and hopes to score his first San Siro goal when Palermo come to visit tomorrow afternoon.
“I was given a warm welcome to this club, although obviously it takes a little while to get acclimatised when you’re moving to a new team and city, especially when the pressures are so different and you’re always expected to win. To be playing side by side with champions like Paolo Maldini and Billy Costacurta is amazing when a few years ago I only saw them on my television set.”
The Italian international is also forced to fight for a place with Andriy Shevchenko, Christian Vieri and Pippo Inzaghi.
“Squad rotation is normal at this level, but I am more than happy to accept the situation and any decisions the Coach makes. There are so many games in a season that there will be room for everyone. I have no preferences on a strike partner, as I can play alongside any of my teammates. It was an honour to be compared to Inzaghi, as he’s one of the best in the world and I have much to learn from him.”
There has been a Rossoneri tinge to his career thus far, as one of his mentors at Cesare Prandelli’s Parma was director – and former Milan Coach – Arrigo Sacchi.
“Sacchi was very important for me, as he gave me a lot of advice and was key in resolving certain situations. Carlo Ancelotti and Prandelli are similar personalities and have a good rapport with their players. They explain football in its tiniest details and that really helps.”
