More like Portugal and Russia.
:blah:

nevermind the fact that the majority of decent Juve players aren't Italian I guess.

Dont take this the wrong way. But think about two Americans who are fans of an Italian soccer club are on a football forum rolleyeing Chelsea for having foreign players. Maybe its just me but is something not really right here?

You completely missed the point. The point was someone here (i.e., YOU) said Chelsea in the CL represents "England vs. the world" (and I quote).

My point is that Chelsea is no more "England" than it is a postal address where Russian oil money meets Portuguese players/coaches.

Had nothing to do with Juventus. It's not like we have folks going around saying Juve represents Italy versus the world.

They don't play in the English league?
They don't face English opposition every single week?
That english opposition doesn't give Chelsea a run for their money on many many occassions?
Winning the CL won't bring extra funds to the Premier League?
Winning the CL won't increase the prestigue of the English Premier League?
Having the champions of Europe pla within our national league again won't have a positive effect on the EPL?
Some of our England National team players winning the Champions League won't help out NT?
Winning the CL won't give a massive boost to London's Olympic bid?
An English side winning the CL won't have an effect on the kids of today?

I guess you need to think about more than meets the eye.

I think chelsea are great in the respect they have alot of english players actually. Terry, Bridge, Parker, Cole, Lampard for one. Duff is not really foreign too. Fine, they brought in 3 portugeuse people, but what do you expect with a portugeuse coach?

Don't get me wrong. I've been one of the very few supporters of Chelsea around these parts. I've been delighted with glee to witness how much people have been infuriated by Mourinho as a coach/person, seeing him like the master taunter at a charity dunk tank where nobody has been able to lay a finger on him. It's great theater. And I've probably been one of the most vocal people on this forum who have advocated the talents of Lampard for the past year and a half -- as a prime example of the creative, effective midfield Juve has woefully lacked this season.

But, IMO, Chelsea stopped being an English team with the arrival of Roman Abramovich. (Though some might argue they were probably even more of an Italian team under Ranieri. :D ).

All great clubs are often very international and cosmopolitan and nature. But the CL is about club, not country. Saying "England vs. the world" is a statement appropriate for a World Cup, and not for an arguably more provincial annual European club tournament where teams are fielded with players from all over the world.

Just ask regulars here like Don Bes. He could care less about the Italian NT, but he's a massive Juve supporter.

I think Mourinho is great actually. Now there is a man maximising himself.

Well you could reply to my other post that made it pretty black and white.
