England wins gay football World Cup

Stonewall Lions FC have triumphed at the International Gay and Lesbian Football Association (IGLFA) World Championship on Saturday.

They beat Argentinian team Safgay FC 5-0 in the final at Leyton Orient's Matchroom Stadium in London.

Stonewall player Doug Edward said:

"We played with pride and thoroughly deserved to win the title after winning seven games to get to the final.

"It was a great experience to play at Leyton Orient and we hope to take the success we had into our season in the Middlesex County Football League."

Stonewall FC are now European (Barcelona 2008), World (London (2008) and Gay Olympic Games (Chicago 2006) Champions.

More than thirty gay and lesbian teams from all over the world took part in the competition.

Iceland, Japan, Australia, Canada, the US and Denmark were among the nations represented.

Stonewall Lions, who are based in London, won the Gay Football World Championship in 2002 and 2006.

The International Gay & Lesbian Football Association (IGLFA) event was hosted by LeftFooters FC and supported by the Football Association.

Despite a request from funding it received no financial support from the Mayor of London.

The next ILGFA World Championship will be held in Washington DC in June 2009

if there was a cup for the gayest ever username on an internet forum, i doubt you'd get much competition.
