Pretty atrocious festive period for all the top sides.

Red card was probably an incorrect decision, but Fulham certainly deserved a draw and could make a decent argument for deserving to win the game.

when a team like Chelsea performs as inconsistently and just plain badly as they have this year, after the first 4-5 games of the season, the reasons for this go well beyond any single player on the team.

And Mikel is not a bad player by any means - he was a regular on the the good Chelsea teams under Mou, Grant, Hiddink and Carlo. Doubt all of them had no idea what they were doing or were starting him simply because they had no alternative, for several years in a row. If he is indeed that bad under AVB, well, considering Chelsea's results this year, I'd call that a pattern :klin:

Mikel has been extremely poor since Ancelotti's second season there. He's a frustating player to watch.

I dont know much about Chelski, but two things everyone could see; 1. Mikel is piss poor. 2. Torres is way too much of a pussy to ever replace Drogba. Both shouldn't get a starting spot.

Chelsea didn't waste a 6-8 or whatever number of pts advantage over ManU and City in Carlo's 2nd year there because of Mikel - the whole team wasn't functioning well after an amazing start to the season. Obviously, something wasn't working there - they had similar issues in Mou's last season too - and the team never recovered from that fall in form. Lot's of great players performed badly, or at least well below expectations, that year and not just Mikel ... that's not enough to all of a sudden brand him a joke-of-a-player given his consistent showings for several years prior to that.

Thing is Mikel was and is still supposed to be just a squad player.

I agree with Gian in that we function better as a team without his awful passing/decision making at times. But obviously not all the blame falls on him.

And fuck you Essien for being always injured.

That's true, but our results have only gotten worse, not to mention our horrible luck so far this year. And city will have a poor to prove after losing the other day.
