Really, wtf was that last night?

I was entertained by the Spurs v Arsenal. But was I impressed? Only part of the time. An interesting scoreline and some clever play and passing, no doubt. But the defending was atrocious. Outside of maybe Assou-Ekotto, nobody had a clue how to mark their opponents. It was comedy at the D line.

Meanwhile the ESPN announcers are watching that display and jizzing all over the booth walls. "This is an advertisement for the English Premier League." "This is one of the best matches I've seen."

WOT?!?

They tried to dismiss "some mistakes" with the high scoreline but completely dismissed proper marking as a relevant element of competitive football.

It was entertaining. But parts were a real embarrassment for the EPL. :sergio:

True but it was a totally different story in the 2nd half. It was like two new teams entered the field, actually just one new one as Arsenal stayed shitty while Spurs improved great deal on both fronts. If it wasn't for the idiotic Essou-Ekotto as you pointed out.

Very true. And this is what shits me about being a football fan in an English speaking country. The inane one eyed following and worshipping of the EPL. Fucking annoying. And Id even say the level of the EPL these days isnt close that what it was 4/5 years ago anyway.

Disagree, the Prem have been fantastic this season, especially for the neutrals. 4-5 years ago 16/20 of the teams would play long ball and try their best to nick 1-0 victories, now most teams play attacking football, Bolton changed, Blackpool, Newcastle and WBA (Di Matteo's) played one of the best attacking football in the league this season.
Maybe the big 4 are not as strong as they used to, but as a whole league it's much much better now.

If it's the gap between the big and small teams that makes any league better then Serie A might well be the best out there, since about all the teams there are somewhat on the same level. But I disagree, although this makes any league much more interesting yet it's the level and quality of the big boys in any league that makes it best. That's why ATM both EPL and La Liga are considered the biggest in Europe and the world for that matter despite the latter being shockingly a two horse race for the last decade.

The league table have been very very close this season in the EPL the 8th team in the table can get relegated.
United, Chelsea and Arsenal are weaker than they used to and it's clear in the UCL. In the times between 2005-2009 the English teams used to dominate the Champions league, now they don't.

I agree with what you are saying, although basically it's because the mid level teams have improved to a degree and the top teams are as bad as they have been for some time. Like Serie A in recent seasons, or the Championship every season, mediocrity is entertaining in it's unpredictability and closely contested games. You'll also find English football is prone to fads, they copy whatever is successful. Spain won the World Cup and Barcelona the CL, so that's the new way to go, until the next fad, or the day English football finds it's own identity.

I agree. I think the EPL is the best too atm. The stuck-up announcers won't affect my opinion on the league, just on those who announce.

Haha still makes me laugh that people still put the English premiere league down. It's a much entertaining league than any other, at most times unpredictable which makes it great. And there are 5 possible teams that could win the league.

I agree with everything you just said except the last part. The title winner potential in the prem is limited, its either gonna be chelsea or man united.

What I mean is potentially 5 teams if get it right could win the league, comparing to la liga and the other boring one with dodgy officials.
