Typical English ping pong football, that first half between Pool and Everton. Cahill took his goal well. Coleman is doing well in a more attacking right wing position, Arteta is passing the ball around and Yakubu has been a pain in the arse for Pool's defense. Pool need to step it up a bit, if they are to get anything out of today's game.
He's injured.
I hate when we play Mikel and Essien together, but as Fred said there's really no other option at the moment, we only have 4 cm, if only we had bought VDV for those 8m. But oh well.
Though to be fair, we played without Lampard and Drogba against Marseille and it we played a great match, could've ended 4-0. Mostly due to Malouda and Anelka being on fire that day, and we always struggle away to Villa, Last season we played better and lost.
We have Benayoun too but he's injured, Ferreira is an RB (a very poor one at that), Bosingwa just came back from an injury, Zhirkov is more of a wide midfileder and played out of position i think he does better as a winger than as a CM, Ivanovic is originally a CB.
We have a lot of injuries atm, fortunately Drogba's one was only a fever.
With that said, i can't remember the last time Lampard missed so many consecutive matches, imo Ancelotti was counting on him not missing a game the whole season, as he always does.
it is kind of surprising that they let ballack and Deco leave and never got even one attack minded Cm player in,if there is one area of weakness in this Chelsea team it is when Lampard gets injured,that and the fact that they play with the ball out wide and have no-one capable of leading the line when Drogba is out
, Ballack wanted to renew but we didn't want to play the 150k p/w he was asking so he was let go, same with Joe Cole.I still think we should've gotten Van Der Vaart. We need another striker too, i think i had this discussion with Fred before the season started.

You're right, that was Carlo's thinking probably, which is quite fair since Lampard rarely misses games, but still injuries are unpredictable, you guys should have at least tried to go for VDV like you said before.
As for Deco and Ballack, they were earning too much thats true, it was right to get rid of them, but it was wrong not to replace them.
Blackpool are doing quite well, true.
