The thing worth remembering with Chelsea is that they were on the verge of financial ruin, they would have been another Leeds but for Abramovich, they might have been a strong team beforehand but they were chasing the dream and couldn't sustain it.
They were nowhere near the stages of Leeds. They would have had to sell off a couple of players but not even close to a leeds scenario.

Thing is hist character is probably in his early 20's & has never seen Chelsea play in the 80's or early 90's. Now he uses wikipedia to back up his ludacris claims & current epl situation.

That said i wont bother with him again. Really warped view of footie, honestly.
True, I am in my early 20's and true I wasn't a follower of Chelsea before Mourinho's team.

Football is based on results... and the records show that you are wrong regardless of how attractive you found their football or how many magicians they had in their team.

Fact: UTD and Arsenal easily and consistently finished above Chelsea until the money came in.
Fact: Chelsea was never a CL concern for big European teams until the money came in.
Fact: Chelsea does not have a History of a Top team.
Fact: Winning the FA cup does not make you a top team unless you give Pompey the same status.
Fact: You ran out of replies so you started Ad Hominem attacks on me rather than on my Arguments.

Get off your High Horse, its a discussion not a competition. I can be wrong and so can you. There is no Winning or Losing here.

Roman Abramovich would be furious with you for undermining his work. So would SAF for putting the old Chelsea at his team's level.

Not far off at all, in fact the Abramovich takeover disguised most of it, but Leeds was over £100m, Chelsea were £80m in debt according to this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/chelsea/3526961.stm
They actually had a £97m debt, of which that £80m was a bond that needed to be repaid imminently. Even as recently as 2004 that was a lot of money.

Tell that to Barcelona or Milan during 1999-2000 CL, Chelsea topped the 1st group (in which Milan finished 4th btw). And Barcelona lost 3-1 at the Bridge in the Quarter Finals, sure they won the return leg but they needed extra time.

You can't really say that it was a team that could be brushed aside easily.

What's up with the Pompey comparisons? Pompey never won an european cup winner's cup or an european super cup, did they?

Sure we weren't at united's or arsenal's level, but we were top 4 material. Comparing Chelsea to pompey is insulting, just as you said comparing Chelsea to United or Arsenal is.

Oh and SAF can go fuck himself.

I completely agree with you. I was merely pointing out that FA cup is not the best way to prove a team's greatness because Pompey is an example of an average team that is very successful at it. Chelsea has always been way superior to Pompey no doubt about that.

I am glad we finally agree.

There is a big difference between saying a competition isn't the best measure of how good a team is and saying that the competition isn't prestigious.

it would be interesting to see where they would ahve ended up if they had not beaten Liverpool on the last day of the season and got into the CL

Definitely not watching that match. There isn't any enjoyment in the Prem anymore, apart from watching my favorite Americans play.
- Mancini failing
- The Russian missing chances
- Man United giving away their 2 goal advantage in 3 minutes

there is some, seeing Mancini fail is my favorite.
