Anyone watching the game?

How are Newcastle doing?
Poorly organised and can't keep possession.

They missed a great chance at 0-0, though.

Looks like the promoted teams are all going down. Whipping boys all of them up till now.

Edit: We're yet to see Blackpool.
Eh?

Blackpool won 4-0 away to Wigan on Saturday.

I would think Newcastle will stay up, because they'll probably win a decent amount of home games.

I didn't catch any of the games since i'm out of the city but reading comments here i guess i didn't miss anything.

And to whoever used the argument that european competition are not taken seriously by italian teams and therefore they're not a way to measure their quality, that's just bullshit.

That was me, ta. They certainly can be measured that way, because quality isn't measured just in the players or in the league, but I don't see any evidence that Italian teams have been treating the EL as more than a nice distraction.

United taking the piss like a Cat with a mouse.

It's funny, Inter won the CL using the exact tactics that Italian teams get raped by.

Speed on the wings I think is a major flaw of the rest.

Very poor match yet again.

Crappy start to this Prem season, but predictable. The gap between the top teams and the bottom feeders is too large. 7th spot and down the clubs are absolute crap.

Overrated league.

I've heard the debate that splitting the league in half might do good things for it

Blackburn Rovers in ongoing talks with Ahsan Ali Syed

Blackburn Rovers say they have held a "cordial and productive meeting" with Indian businessman Ahsan Ali Syed's company over a proposed takeover.

Bahrain-based Syed, owner of Western Gulf Advisory, confirmed on Monday he was keen to buy the Lancashire club.

He said he could give manager Sam Allardyce a transfer kitty of £100m.

Blackburn said talks were "ongoing" after Syed had voiced plans to complete his takeover of the Premier League club within two weeks.

But the club managed by Sam Allardyce, which began the season with a win over Everton, declined to comment further.

Syed, 36, is reported to have about £300m to spend on the takeover, a sum that would both cover the club's debts and allow new players to be bought.

He claims he does not want to buy the club for its business potential but to fuel his "passion" for football.

Blackburn are currently run by the trustees of former owner Jack Walker's estate. Steel magnate Walker thrust Blackburn into the big time in the 1990s by funding a lavish spending spree.

They notably won the Premier League title in 1995 with the goals of two big-money signings Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton, but have struggled to compete at the top end of the table since Walker's death 10 years ago.

The trustees, along with investment bank Rothschild, have been searching for a new owner for the last three years.

Syed claims to have signed a memorandum of understanding with Blackburn allowing him an exclusive four-week period for negotiations and due diligence.

Yet he is hoping to complete a deal before the transfer window shuts at the end of August to allow Allardyce to sign new players.

"Between £80 and £100m is what I'd be allocating for players, but I'm not saying that there is not talent in the team. The talent is already very good," said Syed.

"Right now Big Sam has done a fantastic job with very limited resources. If I can give him some good resources I'm pretty confident he could work wonders."

Syed has also said he will not set Allardyce lofty and unrealistic targets and will not interfere directly with team matters. He is also keen to revamp the 31,000-capacity Ewood Park stadium.

James Milner heads for Manchester City medical ahead of sealing £24m Aston Villa exit

James Milner is close to finally completing his £24million move to Manchester City after heading for a medical at Eastlands.

The protracted deal between City and Aston Villa has eventually been agreed - with Stephen Ireland moving to Villa Park as a makeweight.
Villa will receive £16m plus the £8m-rated midfielder Ireland.

Milner will undergo tests at City on Tuesday afternoon and is expected be unveiled this week.

City boss Roberto Mancini said: 'I hope we can close it between today and tomorrow. I think that Milner is a good player, an English player which is important. I think that Milner can play in different positions.'

Milner has been a top target for big-spending City all summer, although the deal has been held up by Villa's asking price and Ireland's demands for a pay-off.

His arrival will take City's spending well past the £120m mark after the acquisition of Yaya Youre, Aleksandar Kolarov, David Silva, Jerome Boateng and Mario Balotelli.

Ireland joins Craig Bellamy through the exit after the Wales forward joined Cardiff City in a shock loan deal.

Milner played his final match for Villa in Saturday's 3-0 victory over West Ham in the Barclays Premier League.

The England international scored the third goal in the comfortable win over the Hammers at Villa Park.
