No matter how you spin it, no matter how many "lucky" deflections, how many penalties, Lampard is one impressive player and a model professional.
He has become a much more complete player in the last couple of years, which makes his goalscoring more impressive, as he still contributes in other ways too.

Removing penalties takes his goals down to being very good, rather than exceptional.

Lampard actually is the kind of English player i love, brilliant at club level, top notch in europe, all round top drawer player............

incapable of producing it at national level

There are loads of attacking midfielders that take penalties, Kaka being one of them back when he was at Milan, and while the latters scoring has been extremely impressive himself, he hasn't reached the heights Lampard has(goal scoring wise).

For a midfielder to pass the 20 league goals milestone is a big big achievement, penalties or not.

Whatever position a player plays, as soon as I hear a goal tally, I want to know how many are penalties, because penalties can cover up cracks and poor goalscoring form (see Del Piero).

Any midfielder who consistently scores more than 12 or so goals from open play every season is a great asset.

Where have you got the idea I don't rate Lampard or that I am criticising him?

I may talk down his goal scoring a little, but his all round contribution is fantastic.

Thats been one of Liverpools problem this season, Gerrard not bagging his mandotary 15 goals per season in the league and countless others in Europe.

Half and the other half are deflections. Still it's pretty fucking awesome.
I've said this before, although I have to admit the old cliché 'if you don't shoot you don't score'.

The reason why Lampard doesn't do the same for England is that he doesn't play the same role, and has inferior players behind him.

Lampard's an excellent player. Less talent than Gerrard, but he's smart, and has improved remarkably in the last 5 years, and is one of the most consistently excellent players in the world

Gerrard is a better player than Lampard, this season might have somewhat tainted peoples views on Gerrard, but all in all he is a more influential and better all round player than Lamps.
