Likewise, though not just because of my compatriots, Harry seems to be doing good things with them. :agree:
Yup, he's got them playing some good football. One of the most entertaining teams in this seasons EPL.
If they somehow become consistent, they're a shoe in for the 4th place.
Same thing every year if you ask me, they look promising but then eventually crumble. And that's a big if, V. :)

They certainly have looked more impressive than Liverpool, whom i don't think will get 4th spot come the end of the season. Their only problem is their inconsistency, they could play great games like yesterdays game against City, their game against Wigan, Liverpool, West Ham etc. But then they'd ruin everything by losing at home to lower table sides like Stoke and Wolves.

Aston Villa despite being ahead of Tottenham in the table, i don't think they can last very long. Aston Villa do not have enough squad depth for a 38 round league. That is the main reason why we aren't playing Europa League football this season :p

IMO one of City or Tottenham will get the 4th spot. City being the no1 contender for me.

It's not unusual for Spurs to be playing good stuff.

What is unusual is that they have a fairly balanced team with a decent physical presence. In the past they tended to be a bit lightweight and would get bullied (Arsenal style) away to teams like Bolton and Blackburn.

It's going to be very close between Spurs, Villa and Man City (and maybe Liverpool) for a CL spot.

This is the best EPL season in a very long time. Competitive and entertaining, and everybody can lose points to anybody.
Any idea what happens with Tottenham's line-up when Modric will be back?

Kranjcar is having a very good form and Tottenham are doing solid enough even without Luka. But Modric is still, imo, their best midfielder and a place for him will have to be found. If Modric, Kranjcar, Lennon etc fit well together then Tottenham will be even stronger than they're now and they'll be serious contenders for the 4th place.
But is there a weak link in Tottenham right now that will be replaced by Modric?

I would think that Modric and Krancjar will be playing for one position.

Modric is going to have to wait for an injury or suspension because Spurs are playing too well to change their team much just now.

The only way I could see Lennnon, Modric and Krancjar playing in the same team is if they play 4-5-1, and I don't see that happening given the standard of Spurs' strikers.

We already discussed that, try and keep up.

You're right Tottenham are doing very well. Lennon is one of their best players this season, Kranjcar has been playing very well lately and has struck a good understanding with Defoe and Crouch. Redknapp has always been reluctant to try out Modric in central midfield.

Despite all that, i think Modric is still a guaranteed starter, because like you said he is their best midfielder. It showed when he first got injured and they started struggling very much and lost their spot in the top 4 that they had when Modric was around. Kranjcar's good form has made people forget how important Modric was to them.

There is 2 ways this could go.

Either Modric will be given a go at CM, he will probably take Huddlestones place in that case and play alongside Palacios. But Redknapp might not be willing to take that risk as Palacios and Huddlestone have been very good together. Plus, Huddlestone gives them that much needed steel in midfield while Modric is percieved as a bit lightweight for that role in the EPL.

Or Modric will be rotated with Kranjcar and depending on form, one of them will start.

There is another 3rd possibility, though this is an unlikely one. Redknapp may change to a 4-2-3-1 formation with Modric playing behind the lone striker who will most likely be Defoe. An unlikely option though as i doubt Harry will want to change a tactical setup that has been working for them, also Harry loves the big man-small man striker partnership. Crouch has been useful for them too and he and Defoe work very well together ever since both of them were playing for Pompey, ironically under Harry too.

Quality of the top 7 in the EPL is higher though. At least this season.

Perhaps, it's very subjective though, discounting the top 3 teams any of the other 4 teams from either league could beat each other on their day. I think that the EPL can jump a generation ahead of Serie A yet again in the next 2-3 years though.

:p

Fred put it in a nutshell. All in all, we'll have to see what Harry decides when Luka gets full fitness. I seriously doubt he'll have to fight out for a place in their midfield, no matter how good they're playing now, he can only make them better. Personally I would love to see Defoe alone upfront, with Lennon and Kranjcar on the sides and Luka in the middle, behind Huddlestone and Palacios as holding midfielders.

Though in reality, I think Kranjcar would be swapped for Modric.

Past few games they played:

Lennon-Huddlestone-Palacios-Kranjcar

Crouch-Defoe

-----------Gomes

Corluka--Dawson--Bassong--Ekotto

----------Palacios----Huddlestone

----Lennon---------------------Kranjcar

-----------Defoe-----Crouch
I thought so, although I hoped this wasn't how they play.
Luka can easily take one of the two spots in CM but as Red said, it might kill the balance in the team.

Yeah, me too, but they have Defoe, Crouch, Keane and Pavlychenko in attack. I can't see them play with 1 attacker.
