I did some googling, and apparently it has something to with the roots of the British royal family.

Rangers are considered a British/Protestant club (to Celtic being Irish/Catholic), so they have the Queen as the symbol of their beliefs.

They were Germans, weren't they?
Yes.

Other main theory relates to Hun being the term used to describe Germans during the Wars, so Rangers took the place/name of the hated enemy.

Wiki:

Celtic have a historic association with the people of Ireland and Scots of Irish extraction, who are both mainly Catholic and Leftist. Traditionally fans of rivals Rangers only came from Scottish Protestant backgrounds and were supporters of British Unionism. As a result both clubs attracted the support of opposing factions in the political difficulties of Northern Ireland, which intensified the rivalry in Scotland.

They were founded by an Irish priest.

It is Catholic more than Irish.

They have Irish fans because of the Catholic links.

A lot of it goes back to the number of Catholic Irish immigrants to Glasgow there were.
Aha...thank you all for the explanation.:)

Celtic is quite popular in Poland too, due to reasons similar to Irish links and especially since Polsat Sport has been broadcasting SPL matches for few years now.
Because of Boruc?

So you wish Alex Fergusson never left huh!:agree:
That would never have been practical. He'd done all he could and needed a new challenge.

Ferguson and his captain, Willie Miller, spend the early 80's refusing offer from Rangers. Ferguson supposedly even rejected a move to Barca before accepting the Man Utd job.

Bigger things like the Bosman ruling and changing to 3 points for a win ended the possibility of real competition for the foreseeable future.
