I think that the fact that Rooney means way more for his team than Drogba and the fact that he's a bit more of a leader than Drogba and his being English all had a to do with the Player of the Year award going to Rooney rather than Drogba.

Thats what it boils down too. I forgot to mention aswell, Drogba was away for over a month with Ivory Coast and apart from today, does not take the penalty kicks either unlike Rooney at United.
United were playing a Stoke side that were as awful as Wigan today so I don't see your point. When a player outscores the other and out assists the other in THE PREMIER LEAGUE which is what it was based on, then to say Rooney deserves it above Drogba is just weird.
No it is not weird because they give it to players based on performances not merely on the number of goals and assists. I'm a neutral fan when it comes to EPL, I actually wanted Chelsea to win the title, I like both Rooney and Drogba a lot, I watched many of their games and I have to say that Rooney's overall season performance was as good as Drogba's.

Drogba's goals have taken them to the Premier League title and a FA Cup final. How is he not more important than Rooney? without Drogba they may not have won the League.
Rooney deservedly won player of the year, as much as i hate to admit it. The squad around Drogba and the attacking approach adopted by Ancelotti helped Drogba a lot this season. But in terms of overall performances and in terms of influence, i'd say Rooney was more influential than Drogba, and almost single handedly won United the title.

Rooney deserves it because he dragged Manu to within less than 3 points of the title. Chelsea could have won the league with a different striker playing instead of Drogba
