Also someone who can play on the left would be good. Nani is brilliant when on form, like yesterday, but he has too many off days and is too inconsistent to be a starter for United.

2 years ago United's squad was one of the best and most complete in the world, all of a sudden now, you feel there is a lack of quality there.

oh and btw, I'm with Red on Fletcher, the guy has developed into a really useful player for United, he has been one of their best and most consistent players this season, i always thought he was a somewhat limited player, but Ferguson has succeeded in moulding him into a good ball winning midfielder. He's a really really good crosser of the ball too.

You reckon?

I think Fletcher does that pretty well.

I would say Man Utd mainly need a right back and a player to offer some creativity in the middle of midfield.
A goalkeeper might not be a priority this summer, but it will be sooner rather than later.

I don't think they'll buy a right back. O'Shea was doing well for them there before his leg exploded earlier in the season. Wes Brown can fill in there okay, and Rafael is only 19 - I'd be surprised if he wasn't given more time. If they buy a defender, I'd expect it to be a centre half, and to coincide with either Vidic or Ferdinand leaving. Ferdinand's gotten injury prone, and there have been rumours about Vidic having a bit of wanderlust forever (I feel like he's had a lot of injuries in the past couple of years too).

Up front, they've Rooney (probably their best player now), Berbatov and Owen, and rarely play more than one of them. They've bought Hernandez, too, and there are younger guys there - Obertan and Macheda. I don't see another striker coming in.

The biggest potential for buys is in midfield. Scholes and Giggs are getting long in the tooth and Hargreaves is a crock. No one seems entirely convinced by most of their other midfielders, but I think Ferguson will stick with them, and just add one or two over the next two years.

You may be right, especially with youngsters Obertan (who could fill the Scholes shoes) and Mancheda.

I wouldn't be suprised though to see Berbatov leaving for a German side in sn exchange deal for a striker there. Or even Italy.

Ferguson might not make any big signings, instead he'll probably count on the likes of Obertan, Macheda, Evans and Gibson developing and maturing.

I wasn't aware of this before I read the paper over lunch, but they'll be signing a 20 year old defender from Fulham in the summer: Chris Smalling. At £8,000,000, he's probably intended as a long term replacement for Ferdinand. He hasn't played many games for Fulham so I'd expect him to be eased into the team over the course of a couple of seasons.

I saw him a few times for Fulham, i don't want to make a judgment yet, as he is obviously still young and raw, but from what i saw, he really was not all that.
