hmm, interesting, although i'm going to be pedantic (and possibly get shot down) and say that there was no big 4 at the beginning of the premiership

I was thinking that before.

Leeds and Newcastle both spent a few years in the top few, while Chelsea were nowhere until Abramovich arrived.

Eboue fucked it up for us today. Sheer and utter stupidity for the red card today, probably costing us that crucial 4th place. 7 points away from Aston Villa is way too much.
That was really a stupid move by Eboue, close to being as stupid as Iaquinta. Boring game overall, too bad Modric didn't cost you the points in the end. ;)

Too bad Corluka's gaffe didn't hand us the 3 points on a silver platter ;)
BTW, was I taking a nap for half the game or was Bendtner completelly invisible after he came on? I really thought he should have gun Eduardo a run for it. :(

I thought so too, i really miss little Edu. I was actually happy Adebayor got injured because i thought it meant Eduardo will get a chance, Ade has been one of our worst players in 2009. But i don't think he was ready to play 60 minutes of a a match as intense as the NLD. Niklas did better than expected to be fair.

It doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet so:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/portsmouth/7878084.stm

Tony Adams has been sacked by Portsmouth.

No great surprise. EPL teams need to stop giving young coaches with little or no experience jobs. Leave them to learn in the lower leagues first.
but hiring younger less experienced coaches occurs in italy as well. it's always a risk it can either pay off like guardiola is at barca, and mancini and allegri have/are doing at inter and cagliari respectively, or it can be a catasrophic disaster, personally i think some old school managers are out of date and clubs are prefering younger managers with new ideas and energy

I consider it too big a gamble, as a general rule.

Adams spent one year as Wycombe boss. Mancini spent two as Lazio boss. Not really comparable.

Managers should spend a couple of seasons at a lower level to learn before taking on a bigger job.

in fairness to adams he was the assist at portsmouth prior to his managerial appointment, this strategy seems to be working for the current sunderland manager, succeeded a fairly successful roy keane who went straight to managing a championship side, and earning promotion. As for ince i think he should have tried his hands at a championship team like aidy bothroyd did with watford, and again in fairness to bothroyd did a fantastic job over all with what he had to deal with despite being relegated from the prem and struggled in the championship before he got sacked for a manager who is doing no better,
