I'll see you in court Barton, vows Dabo
Joey Barton is facing court action after it emerged his training-ground assault on Manchester City teammate Ousmane Dabo left the Frenchman unconscious and with a damaged eye.
Barton is suspended from City and facing a £100,000 fine after clashing with Dabo at the club’s Carrington training ground on Tuesday.
And Sportsmail can reveal Dabo, 30, has instructed lawyers to begin proceedings against Barton after telling friends that the England midfielder struck with a flurry of blows when his back was turned.
Dabo — who has ruled himself out of Saturday’s derby with Manchester United — has not revealed whether he has reported Barton to police or is intent purely on pursuing civil proceedings.
But the development places further doubt over Barton’s professional career.
Dabo said: "My face is badly disfigured. The cornea and the retina of my left eye are damaged quite badly.
"When Joey Barton struck me I lost consciousness for three or four seconds. It was from behind.
"I don’t remember exactly what happened after that. I am shocked that a so-called team-mate should do that. I can’t play on Saturday as I was knocked out."
Dabo has told his lawyers to start gathering evidence from witnesses — including sickened team-mates — and was upset yesterday to read comments from Barton’s representative Willy McKay claiming that the 24-year-old was acting in self-defence.
