Good signing.

Chelsea have been sorely lacking a midfielder with that sort of presence for a long time - probably since Essien was last good.

As much as I'd love to laugh at Chelsea for resigning the player for quadruple the amount, I really think it would be a good signing for them, as Red said they've been crying for a midfielder with that physical presence. I imagine he'd compliment Ramires very well, and would probably form quite a strong midfield duo.

So when they say Aguero makes £200 000 a week(which is about £10m a year) does that mean that he actually only makes £5m? Because usually in Italy they always present the salaries after tax which means that the gap really isn't that big after all, huh?

The tax rates are slightly different, but there is a simple way of showing it; the total wage bill for Juventus was last given as something like €115m. The current wage bill for Man City is £200m (€242m). Chelsea's is £173m (€209m). Arsenal's is £143m (€173m).

The gap is therefore quite clearly massive. We can pay a couple of players really good money, but not a squad. Income tax is 45% in the UK and 43% in Italy. So we can pay Tevez €10.5m to come out with €6m, and City can pay Aguero £10.4m so he comes out with £5.7m, but they can do it over and over, we can't.

Obviously, but my agenda was all about keeping Pogba and Vidal :D

Gigi for example makes 6m euro a year after taxes which means that in the EPL that would be about £190 000 weekly which would make him one of the highest paid players in the league. More than guys like Rooney, van Persie(who we couldn't sign because United astronomical salary?) Özil, Toure, Hazard etc.

€115m is basic pay... Juve's total wages was €149m and that's excluding other personnel (non-sporting ones)
...check page 120 in the link... this year wages will be even higher.

It says 6m here.

http://www.tsmplug.com/football/juventus-player-salaries-2014/

Anyway, surely we can afford keeping Pogba or Vidal here if they get offered like £180000 weekly from some English club.
That site cites Gazzetta as its source, but Gazzetta says Buffon is on 4m per year:

Anyway, it's beside the point.

I believe Jay is right in saying that the difference between Juve and the richest EPL clubs is less to do with the biggest salary they can afford to pay and more to do with how many players in their squad they can afford to have earning upwards of 4m per year.

Wasn't Gigi paid 6m before he renewed his contract?

Anyway, the point here is that even if City or United offer Pogba or Vidal 150000 in salary we should be able to match. I mean hell, Vidal's 4m+1.2m in bonuses gets him at the equivalent of £165 000 in EPL terms which would make him a top 10 earner in the EPL.

All I'm trying to say is that financially I thought those guys would gain a whole lot more in the EPL since I thought the wages in EPL were presented after tax. I know we can't sign 10 guys to those wages but surely we should be able to keep our stars and fan favorites around.

Also, look at De Rossi:shocked: He's paid 6.5m which in EPL would make him the highest earner at over £200 000 a week.

You sure about that?

Seen some numbers bigger than that floating around regard Yaya Toure at times.
