Became unacceptable in Britain because of the way certain people have used it over the years.

'Retard', on that list, too, is, I believe, still a proper medical term. It's just that certain people have adopted it and used it as an insult.

It's also not all that long ago that 'handicapped' was the politically correct term for a disabled person.
Interesting, thanks for the explanations .

Yeah, not an insult I'm prone to using, even if it is one frequently directed by Aberdeen fans at Dundonians (along with the charming song The Wheels on Your House Go Round and Round...).

to think that liverpool fc feel that it is unacceptable to call someone a princess or a fairy, yet no mention of monkey's... says a lot about the club if you ask me.
Ah, much has changed since it was the opposition fans calling them 'Niggerpool' when they had John Barnes and there were relatively few black players in the league.

:agree: also up until about 20-25 years ago, "crippled" was another term for physically handicapped people.

How is "Paki" an insult? Here it's just a shorter way to say Pakistani.
Not here. Obviously there are lots of Pakistanis and Indians in the UK. Generally both of them would be called 'Paki' by racists.

I think the Pakistani lads here use it amongst themselves, a bit like 'nigger' I suppose, but also just 'Pak'.
