It's not just Higuain, Pjanic, Alves, Benatia, Pjaca....

It's Higuain, Pjanic, Alves, Benatia, Pjaca, Dybala, Khedira, Sandro, Lemina, Rugani in 2 years.

Calling our team "very pedestrian" is just plain stupid.
We have sold great players and bought some good players. The fact is we should of kept our best players while adding wuality to the rest of our team. That is how big clubs progress.

The issue is not the midfield which is very solid. The problem is that at least 3 of them are either plagued by chronic injuries/injury prone/coming back from a serious injury. In the worst case scenario, Marchisio comes back and looks bad, Khedira gets hurt within the next month, and Asamoah gets hurt again, we're up ****s creek. Furthermore, then you lose Lemina to AFCON. You then have Pjanic, Hernanes, and Sturaro.

Best case Khedira stays healthy, Marchisio comes back without missing a beat and Asamoah stays healthy. You then have Marchisio, Pjanic, Khedira which is very solid, with decent depth in Sturaro, Hernanes, and Lemina.

Dropping Hernanes and adding another CM would be ideal, but it MIGHT not be necessary. I still think the best thing is to add an AM like James because he can play in a CM position too (you wouldn't get a guy like Ozil because he is way too soft defensively, but James actually tracks back). That way if you do have a healthy midfield, you can play him in his preferred CAM position, and if you do not, he can fill in as a CM.

 at calling the players we have bought just good.

Dybala, Higuain, Sandro, Alves, Khedira, Pjanic are just good players. Yeah, that's it.
You're forgetting the man of the match from Saturday

Benatia

I wonder if the need for another midfielder would be so great if Marchisio and Mandragora were not injured.

And yes, I do realize that we absolutely need another midfielder. I'm just throwing that out there

Another potential option is Alves in a central role. He is mobile, good vision, good in tight spaces, can tackle, make intelligent runs, and likes playing in the middle of the pitch (as we saw vs. Lazio). He has also been our possession hub in the midfield so far in the season. Check the possession stats, it has been going to him. If injuries become a real problem, he could probably play there.

I love this obsession with James. I hope we get him if it is only to make you happy. You're working tirelessly to bring him here :D

i love marotta, i'd gladly have his baby. but there's a 'but'.

in the cl final, we had marchisio, pirlo, vidal and pogba as our midfielders. now we have pjanic, khedira, and an injured marchisio. from 4 wc mids down to 3, of which 1 injured, 1 injury prone. our defense and attack are near perfect, i'm happy with these departments of our squad, but i see some issues in midfield. there were cm's on the market, and we only replaced pogba with pjanic, and seemingly didn't care about finding a vice-marchisio. that would have been an issue even if marchisio was healthy.
