Mascherano has been the best CDM in the world for nearly a decade. One simply needs to watch argentine tournament games to see it.

WC2014
Coppa2015
Coppa cnt. 2016
Okay, fair point. Yes, he's a fantastic CDM. I just don't think he's the best in the world. Verratti > Mascherano. Regardless, I guess we'll see who we actually sign.

If I said Higuain was impossible at the start of the mercato then Nainggolan for next summer needs another word inventing for it. But he's exactly the sort of player who would add something to us. Those are few and far between in Serie A. If we are looking at potential starter/rotational players from Serie A then the list is pretty short:

    Goalkeepers - Handanovic
Defenders - Manolas, Koulibaly, Bruno Peres
    Midfielders - Nainggolan, Hamsik, Allan
    Forwards - Icardi, Insigne

Add in a bunch of younger players such as Perin, Donnarumma, Romagnoli, Hysaj, Diawara, Zielinski, Bernardeschi, Berardi etc, who in the future may have starter potential.

Verratti is no CDM. he plays on the right in a 3 man midfield for PSG for years

    ----------T.Motta---------
    Verratti----------Matuidi

they bought Krychowiak now so they obviously have no intention to moving Verratti anywhere from his current position

Verratti isnt a cdm. He's a deep playmaker.

But he's my favorite deep playmaker

My ideal 4231 would see verratti and mascherano holding the midfield

But he can play next to the cdm, and be extremely good as the deep playmaker, with alot of freedom to move around

There absolutely isnt. He's still the world's best CDM.
True that. Whenever he plays for the NT he shows he's still got it in that position.

IMO it's a shame he's played for Barca all this time. I mean sure he's won everything there is to win with them, but as a defender he's decent when playing in their system, but if he had played in his natural position all this time, he'd be remembered as a world class player in his position.

Selling Pogba now is just bad timing. He can have another attempt at the CL with Higuain this year and leave next season if he wants to when we will have replacements for him lined up.

veratti is best in a midfield 3 on the right or left. When we had pirlo in a 352, we always had gaps between defence and midfield as pirlo is not a DM and that's why conte did do anything in the ucl. PSG signed Krychowiak to play as DM

You're right that that's where he usually plays. But on occasion he's actually played the deep lying playmaker role instead of Motta and he's done quite well there. He's a much better defender than he's given credit for; top top player Verratti.

Breaking news on #SkyItalia Manchester United have no intentions to raise their offer for Pogba and Juventus won't sell at the current offer

Considering all those, for a 4-2-3-1, what can possibly be a better holding duo then Mascherano and Verratti. Absolutely amazing quality

In FM terminology, Pirlo's best position was DM with role as Regista. That's how I would use Verratti, even though that's not where he plays in PSG.

Edit. Verratti contributes way more in defense than Pirlo. Maybe even more than Pogba.

if he's serious about the balon d'or he should see that with one great push with this controclamorosoblitzfumacabianca of a team we've got in UCL will get him there
