didn't marotta also say that we will strengthen the squad to be able to go for the CL? iirc, he also mentioned Cavani's name a few times and said we are interested if PSG are willing to sell. I actually got the impression that this time we will aim higher than we used to especially with the remarks about wanting to win the CL. I honestly think we will spend more than usual this term and CL challenge will be an explicit aim rather than merely an added bonus the way it has been for the last 3 years.

Wanting to win CL doesn't mean signing superstar players.It's all about having the ambition of winning it.
The management already know this current group is capable of causing damage in the cl so the first thing they'll do is to try and retain the core group while adding competent players within reach to compliment them and that are hungry and motivated to achieve great things with the club.

This, basically. We all saw what an injury ravaged team was doing to Bayern, and what crisis juve with mediocre pogba was doing against City.

This group is capable of winning the CL if they all remain, and if they are fit in the clutch games. Which was exactly the issue. So with "strenghtening", its just keeping the group and evaluate where we need more reliability in therms of covering for injuries.

Yeah but there's talk like that every Summer. The problem is it's not that easy. If it was I'm sure our management would just do that.

Depth is important because we play a lot of games. Injuries, suspensions and drops of form happen and we saw that perfectly this season. There's a saying "your team is as good as your bench" for a reason and we experienced it this year too, even in CL where we were thrown out just by Bayern's depth (Coman and Thiago). When the tie is so close it's down to details and bench is one of those important details.

I think you underrate the players mentioned above a lot but I guess it comes out of you just because of impatience. It's not enough to just spend big to win CL. You have to be the best team on organizational level to win it. Your team has to function perfectly, otherwise no money will win it for you. The biggest part of the job is there to be done by Allegri, not Marotta IMO. Allegri has to find the perfect balance between attack and defence, plus make the team confident when we play in Europe. Atletico aren't big spenders nor they have that many big names but they managed to do it again. Fecking Torres plays in attack for them and they are one step from winning it (which they will IMO, but we'll see).

Give me a WC AM that's affordable and gives us guarantees. Tbh I see no name on the market that fits the criteria.

I think we need more technical ability in this team so we can withstand high pressing teams like Bayern and Barca. Against Atletico, Bayern couldn't take the ball of them early. Those Atletico players were so good on the ball. I think we need an Andre Gomes type in midfield who can receive the ball and push it in tight spaces. Pogba is too alone in that department. I also think we need a technical option to Lichsteiner. Bayern targeted him almost every time and he doesn't have the ability to get himself out of those situations. Cuadrado helped him out alot but it seems like he's leaving.

I am a little more optimistic than you. I think we will have at least one 30 mill signing or so in the mold of dybala (very young and very talented) or maybe even Cavani.

30M signing is supposed to be Gomes, we are also getting Berardi at 25M. Priority should be trying to keep Morata and Cuadrado though, depending on how that goes we will have 2 different mercatos afterwards

You do need a striker to replace Morata if this occurs. We can't be with only Dybala, Zaza, Mandzu. Especially considering we'd be playing a front 2 with James behind them.

Well its not + each other because we only own Morata. You give back morata to madrid for 30, and spend the berardi money on top of it for james. You then use the money you would have spend on Cuadrado towards Gomes, and a RB and permanently switch to a 4-3-1-2.

I don't think it would be that expensive btw compared to what people are projecting here. Many people here are expecting us to try to keep Morata for 20, Cuadrado for 20 and then buy Berardi for 25. That alone is 65 mill while KEEPING Morata. Also that is aside from the rumoured 30 for Gomes and whoever we get for RB/CB. We did pay over a 100 last year so I wouldnt be surprised if we do the same given that we are stable and successful.

In my scenario we would sell morata for 30 and buy James for 70. The 40 mill difference would come from the savings on Cuadrado and Berardi (45) and the money we would have paid madrid for morata (20). That should leave us with 25 mill to spend on a sub striker like Butshwayi or whatever his name is or some cheaper option to put more money towards the RB. So it might be within budget or slightly above if Cuadrado would be the RB if Chelsea sells him to us.

James isn't worth more then 35 million right now. They overpayed for him big time.

He would make his career move if he went to Juve. Unlike Real, Juve has a healthy atmosphere in the squad and no primadonas like Ronaldo.

James is worth way more... Real didnt overpay for him! He isnt best suited to Zidane`s style! He would tear lots of net if he goes somewhere else thats for sure!
Juve? It would be great for both parties but the truth is Isco is more our kind of player.. (even If I definitely take James over him)

As for Real and James.. Real biggest mistake is not buying James but selling Di Maria! Why would you sell a player that was very important in your CL win?! This is beyond me!
