He is the Captain of the side. I think he is doing good, I heard Italy have done alot of defending, think that its their strenght.
Romagna is a great talent. Being captain in both Juventus primavera team and u-19 national team.
I'm totally fine with Italy focusing on defending. Tactics/defense/being prudent has always been the Italian way.
My only criticisms of the youth system are:
1) Focus more on developing skilled attacking midfielders/secondary strikers. Italy's defensive brilliance has always been augmented by having a player with creativity and offensive flair to bring moments of brilliance that decide games. We are missing a Baggio, ADP, or Totti right now. As much of a shithead as Cassano is, we are really lacking a player with that profile right now.
2) Give young Italians a more prominent chance in Serie A. Italy is competitive every year in the youth tournaments, so clearly the talent pool is there, and it is superior to England's. Somehow England has youth players in their first teams...
The problem is that the players stay too long with the primavera, get loaned out to second tier teams, and never get an opportunity with the first team. Italians are too fearful of young players making mistakes, which is toxic for development. As bad as Ranocchia is, I see him as a failure of the Italian system.

Also, England's tactical ineptitude is amusing. It is the only country that refuses to use its brain while playing. I guess you can draw parallels to the general lack of knowledge by most premfaces...
I can't wait to see Sassuolo beat an EPL team in Europa. I wish more teams would follow their model. Is it a surprise that a team loaded with previously unknown Italians finished in a Europa spot? No. Italian teams just have more quality than they think, and don't always need to go fishing for talent in the Baltics or South America. Those players add a lot because often they bring characteristics that Italian players do not have. However, the league should not be 66% imported players. It is more important for teams like Juventus to add these players because to complete at a top level in Europa, world class players are needed. But wouldn't it help if the other teams did a better job developing Italian talent? It would nice to see all top end Italian teams at least 40% Italian.
