Why does it make sense for you? Its not like you need the money. Yeah he is injury prone lately, but besides Boateng you lack CB options, so why get rid of a class act CB who most likely will play better when not playing in suicidal high line under Ancelotti?

Barzagli has a contract to 2018, and both him and Chiellini are reguarly more injured nowadays. Getting a top class CB to replace Caceres and take over for Barzagli fully in 2 years is very smart planning by our board.
But that would also mean that Barzagli and Rugani would be in the bench, add Chiellini too in a 4 man defense.

Isn't that an overkill?

It isnt overkill for two reasons. Firstly we wont play 4 man defence but 3 man CB one (otherwise signing makes no sense).

And secondly, he is better then Rugani.

And I repeat, Barzagli is 35 with two year more on his contract, how long do you expect him to play in this standard and dont you want to get his replacement while he is still around instead of scramble for replacement and get scraps because you didnt plan ahead? Barzagli, Licht and Gigi are three major rejuvenation needs for us, and last thing we need to do is address it when its too late when they are about to leave/declined/physically spent. Better to do it like this while they still here, like we did with Evra with Sandro signing.

Just pointing out both Barzagli's and Chiellini's injury rate, combined with Caceres leaving will do Osman.

Oh and the Sandro signing is a near perfect copy scenario we'd have here

Still, its TOO good to be true imo

Yeah I expected our 5th CB to be Tonelli or Goldaniga type of players, and these are what I considered best case scenarios for replacing Caceres. Never considered the idea club would get a top class one like Benatia, too good to be true indeed. Him in Roma is kind of top class defending I havent seen since Nesta/Thuram days really.

It would also kinda take pressure of Rugani to break into the team soon. Italian defenders have had this thing of taking a few years to become complete, if they are the thinking kind.

Alot of people probably forgot Barzagli's last season at palermo before he left..

I won't complain, that's sure. :D

But won't get my hopes up, many retarded rumors around.
