Ferguson as far as I'm concerned was always overrated. He's never had anything special to him. His rise to prominence really is by and large due to the fact that he was at the helm of affairs when the so called 'golden generation' came through the youth system. Take that away, and you'll realise he was pretty ordinary when it came to market moves or on field tactics. As for him quitting, I doubt he will, since he has no future anywhere else and also the fact that he's actually slipped into a comfort zone that is Manchester United.

he'll be forced to quit.

A bit like Russian generals.

The new owner bought the club to make money. He was very clear on that point.

Result: Man Utd fail in every aspect. Loosing there biggest sponsor, there biggest names and even sportsmanlike they fail to even reach 20% of there former status.

What would you do?

I know profesioalism is important, but to somewhere.Alex Ferguson is the guy responisible for all the succes of Man.utd and making it's name bigger, even he has a role to make this club once the richest in the world.wouldn't that mean something to you?Sacking him would be very harsh, like saying "you are fired",but discussing it with him,and ask him if he has other solutions for future, that would be wiser IMO.

But you have to do what you think is best for the club, not for a singel person. IMO Fergie has done what he can do in Man Utd. They need new blood, new idees. Every era has an end.

I am not against what you are saying, but at least they must be sure(by talking with him) that if he has more solutions to give or not, if he will have to leave, that should be after agreement from both sides.my point is it's very harsh to sack him to tell him "you are fired". he must quick byhimself for the sake of great old days and all those success.

You can´t expect them to "get along" as buddies for a retirement. But he should have the option to officially resign instead of getting sacked.

Chelsea have a lot to pay for. No, not the operation to reattach Hamann's leg, but in terms of how they've shifted media bias. There's the transfer fees, a big debate in itself. How the hell do you make spending £20,000,000 on a player routine? Forget that for a moment though. I'm more interested in this crisis at Manchester United. Currently on 31 points from 15 games, they're joint second, and on course to finish with something like 77 points. That's assuming they don't hit a run of form in early 06, as they tend to do. LEt's be a little generous here, and assume they have a tiny little bit of luck. Let's say they finish on 80 points.

I don't think I'll have stretched anyone's credulity here yet. I don't intend to start. In the past 15 years, 80 points has been good enough for second place 12 times. It was enough to win it four times. Why then are Man Utd the worst team in two decades? Why are they in crisis? Russian cash.

And, erm, Benfica. But that's another story.

Media-fueled hysteria.

On the contrary, the new owners have shown a good amount of support for Ferguson and restraint in interfering with team affairs.

More than most expected, anyway.

No, I hate them, remember 1999?
who could ever forget. I dont recall any other day my family got madly happy. what broke my heart was kuffour's reaction, banging and slamming his hand to the ground. that match in barcelona (barca wasnt it?) was definitely an unforgettable one.

You just lost respect.
sorry.. that was rather insensitive. the whole family are die hard manunited fans, im the black sheep for supporting Juventus. But Bayern did manage to win the CL after 1999, that should brighten things up a bit no? :) Manunited broke a lot of hearts that season, including Juve's... it was just a crazy season.

The match in Torino against Manyoo was incredibly heartbreaking, the worst Juve game I've seen after the Perugia one. :(
