Camoranesi was half italian. Ogbonna, Balotelli and Motta do not have Italian heritage, and ply their trade outside of Italy.
Really? I thought Balotelli was adopted as a fucking kid and grew up his entire life in Italy?

Hes more Italian than Camoranesi. A guy who lived his entire life in Argentina and moved for football to Italy. Do you know how many Argentinians have Italian heritage? Pretty much 2/3s of them. They dont consider themselves Italian.

Balotelli is more Italian than Camoranesi.

Depends on how you categorize nationality. Some categorize it as being from that country and raised in that culture while others heritage and decent is more important.

Pretty much only through racist or nationalistic attitudes does the later happen. It's absolutely ridiculous to say Balotelli is less italian than Camoranesi, a guy that only ever played for Italy and was born and raised in Argentina because he couldn't get into their national team. But of course, it's quite simply useful for racists or crazy nationalists (hello Turks) that claim people from other places purely because they share some DNA, while dismissing others because they don't like their DNA.

I wouldnt say its only racist but racism can derive from it. Nationalistiv views are more likely.but still even a lot of third and fourth generation italian americans tell people they are italian. No they are Americans which they also relate to but they hold on to their heritage proudly. Not because anti american views but proud of where they came from. Happens a lot in every country really. Problem is when people bring their own country somewhere and want new country to adopt it. That can cause racism and nationalism I think. Camo could have considered himself more Italian because of his family structure and heritage while Balo could be more African. I surely dont know. Same reason why Boateng brothers play for different teams I supose

If African-Americans identify as American then I imagine Balotelli identifies as Italian.

Born here to Italian parents, schooled and lived all his life in Italy and plays for the Italian national team as he cannot declare for any other team. For me he sounds more Italian than Camoranesi who grew up his entire life in Argentina and only declared for Italy because he couldn't get into the Argentinian national team. In addition Argentina isn't like America where Italian-Americans find deep connections with their heritage. In Argentina most Argentinians have Italian heritage but they would not consider themselves anything but Argentinian.

I wonder if the poster in question regards the hundreds of thousands of black Italians who are now born in Italy to not be 'real' Italian?

It's racism pure and simple. Balotelli does not consider himself 'African'. he has never set foot in Africa, has no known family from Africa and no African connections other than the colour of his skin. To even insinuate that he is more African, or that he himself considers himself African first and Italian second is racism pure and simple.

Of course he's more Italian than Camoranesi. Genetically perhaps not, but being a 3rd generation Italian mixed with Spanish, mestizo or whatever like Camoranesi is doesn't make you a genetic Italian either.

No, don't think so. Emre Can and his agent are not negotiating with teams nor talking to the media until after the season ends.

Doesn't want to be a distraction, he's doing it out of respect for Liverpool and the fans. It's a class move.

He'd be a solid addition, we need a lot of help in midfield. Classic Beppe "market opportunity".

Won't lose sleep over him though, he's a good allround player but not a world class player who'd change our midfield situation.

He could be perfect in a 3-man midfiled. and we're not filthy rich, we should go all in for this guy, make him an offer he can't refuse!

I think that's Can in a nutshell. Sign, great. Don't sign, not that bothered. Does have some pretty recognisable Juve traits though, and we could do with a bit more muscle in CM.

“Could I go back to the Bundesliga? Why not, although I have to admit the level has dropped significantly in recent years.

“The Premier League can spend more money on the transfer market and that’s very important for players.

“I’m doing well in England now but La Liga is very attractive, as is Serie A which has grown in recent years, or even Ligue 1 which has become one of the most important leagues in Europe.”
