John Elkann joined his cousin Andrea Agnelli this afternoon to watch the Bianconeri put through their paces in their traditional pre-season workout at Villar Perosa.
‘Tradition’ isn’t a word lost on the Fiat chairman, who followed in the footsteps of his family by greeting the public at the Stadio Comunale and parading the team’s latest trophy success around the pitch.
His attire for the afternoon, the brand new goalkeeper jersey with ‘John 1’ printed on the back, was a fitting tribute to the current Juventus captain.
“I was given it by the club as a present,” Elkann told Sky during the game. “Gigi is the captain and it’s nice to be able to wear it. It’s quite rare to wear goalkeeper’s shirts and Buffon is one of the best in the world.”
After spending time conversing with Antonio Conte and the team, Elkann voiced his optimism as the Bianconeri prepare to embark on an exciting return to the Champions League.
“There’s a good feeling in the camp after the Super Cup win. The team is a tight-knit unit, the public is enthusiastic and this gives us strong hope for the season that’s about to get underway shortly. Napoli’s absence from the prize-giving? I was lucky enough to spend a few days at the Olympics in London and witnessed the correct sporting spirit. That’s what sport is all about, and the right way to behave.”
