I don't think he has regressed at all defensively. Licht has been incredibly solid defensively. It's in the opposing team's half of the pitch that he has regressed massively. And yes, his offensive regression has been massive. His assist numbers have dropped drastically, because he can't seem to beat his man at all anymore, and can't seem to figure out how to send a cross in without it being blocked. His inability to get that half step that he got so regularly before, means his crosses and passes are easy to block/intercept. He also gives the ball away too easily in the opponents half. But he always gets back in time when this happens to help break up attacks.

But, there has been absolutely no defensive regression. Rarely do teams attack us down that side of the pitch, and Licht seems to shut down everyone he goes up against. He effectively marked out whoever was on his side in the CL against both Dortmund (Reus), and Real Madrid (Ronaldo)... ROnaldo's first goal, Licht was rightly marking Bale at the far post, who would have had an empty net to score in, Ronaldo had drifted central and was the responsibility of Chiello and Pirlo, Chiello ball-watched, and Pirlo was just too lazy to follow Ronaldo into the box. The second goal was a penalty and had absolutely nothing to do with Licht. Chiello was clumsy in taking out James unnecessarily, and Pirlo failed to provide the help that his position should have provided. Almost all Real's attacking play came down Evra's side.

Like I said, he wasn't superb but he wasn't poor either like you are trying to make him.

I'd take a player who can organize the defensive line, mark players like Ronaldo and Bale, stamina not to be discussed, and consistant even if he doesn't step up against Torino (like even Allegri cares, and not score). I'll take that anyday anytime, and mark my words, Allegri will keep him for next season as a starter too.

Why are you even bringing him up scoring? I haven't. I said from an attacking (ATTACKING, Rab) point of view his crossing is poor and inconsistent. I have no idea how you can even consider the idea that it's "personal".

That's because his offensive play consists of making runs. At some point teams are going to figure it out and he doesn't have the creativity/skill to come up with an answer.

2nd one was a penalty.. So basically you are talking about one goal and it is very debatable if Ronaldo was Lichtsteiner's man at that point.

Agreed. All I mean, is that having that money in order to do things like pay off pending instalments on previous transfers/ other miscellaneous expenses, frees up funds for current transfer window.

Like you say, purely subjective. I think we have the ability to spend quite a bit this summer, whether we do or not is a different story, though I suppose if we don't, it will probably make a compelling argument that we don't have the ability to spend.

He's also lost a bit of pace it seems this year, especially as the season has progressed. So it's quite natural that younger more athletic defenders can keep up with him now, and make those blocks.

You ignored the fact that he was good and more than good in Juve's most important matches and you outlined Darmian's performance Torino vs Juve which is ridiculous to me. I see that's personal when all you can think of is the Darmian vs Lich highlight and repeat it continuesly.

You are basically taking everything away from him because he didn't impress you with his crosses like he used to?

I'd like to have Darmian too, but that doesn't mean you can underrate what Lich has done this season seriously.

Yes, but that doesn't take away the fact that he's over 30. Like with Evra it doesn't hurt to have options.

I am not against having options, I'm against it being on the expense of underrating Lich's overall performance.

Yeah, this is what I recalled from you.

I don't see why people are getting upset about people stating the fact that Licht has regressed. It's obvious on the offensive end. He's still a very strong player to have in the team... But it should be obvious that we need to look for a young fullback(s) with potential to replace Licht and/or Evra over the next couple years, and at least allow better rotation for them. I think you knock the number of games Licht has played this season down by about 25% and we get much much better attacking performances from him.

The total absolute opposite, his huge offensively weakness and limitation is shown as wingback when he has to do everything on his own in the whole wing, beat his man, no one to overlap on, starts from higher up position that requires more dribbling in tight spaces etc. As fullback he has more time to make deep runs in good timing and generally has assistance to overlap on midfielders (even if we dont have a winger infront of him, better when we played 4-3-3 first season).


Either way, he is someone we need to replace very soon because he is not balanced enough anymore, he is strong defensively but completely useless offensively almost the entire 2nd half of this season, doesnt have it in him anymore as much, physically or otherwise. Especially much more so when he is so overplayed nonstop due to lack of options, just means he will decline quicker and his limitations become more obvious.

Because it's one thing to say Lich is getting older and there should be future replacement which is normal and it's another thing to underrate what he has done so far just because people are jizzin over Darmian and can't wait to see him play for Juve.
