Wolfsburg would accept Juventus midfield playmaker Diego in exchange for Edin Dzeko, according to Tuttosport.

Juventus are pulling out all the stops to land Dzeko who is without doubt the most in demand striker on the continent.

A breakthrough came at the weekend when Wolfsburg signed Mario Mandzukic, a 24-year-old Croatian striker capable of replacing Dzeko.

There is mounting speculation that the next few days could be decisive in determining Dzeko’s future.

Juventus have apparently offered Diego and €15m for Dzeko, although it’s unclear whether the Brazilian would consent to such a move.

The Wolfsburger Allgemeine believe Dieter Hoeness likes the idea, so much so that he sent two of his most trusted scouts to watch Diego play against Hamburg yesterday.

Diego is Juventus’ only way to Dzeko as they can’t compete in a straight-cash battle with Premier League heavyweights Manchester City.

Interviewed in La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus legend Marco Tardelli said: “Dzeko is not a great champion, but he is an interesting ‘project’.

“Sure, Juventus must sign two world-class players if they want to make the next jump in quality, but I see few phenomenal players around, actually very few.”
