Juve admit Dzeko defeat
Juventus director general Beppe Marotta has conceded that his dream of signing Edin Dzeko won’t come true.
The Turin giants have been openly courting the Wolfsburg ace all summer, but Marotta has now admitted that he’s unlikely to land the striker.
“For Dzeko it is almost over as Wolfsburg just don’t want to sell,” said the official who arrived from Sampdoria during the summer.
“Dzeko has said on more than one occasion that he wants to wear our shirt, but what could have been considered as a dream for us is difficult to realise.”
Juventus have been quite active in the market so far after finishing last season in seventh place, but Marotta insists he can’t bring in any more players until others are sold.
“We are working with other clubs regarding players heading for the exit,” he added. “Once those moves have been completed then we can think about more signings.
“We’ll just have to evaluate the situation and we still have 20 days in which we can work. We want to get to the end of the transfer window with the squad that we want.”
Sebastian Giovinco yesterday left the Turin giants after he joined Parma, while Mauro Camoranesi is understood to be wanted by Birmingham.
Other players heading for the exit include Jonathan Zebina, Zdenek Grygera, Fabio Grosso and possibly Christian Poulsen who is in talks with Liverpool.
Once some cash has been generated from sales, the Bianconeri will then attempt to sign Milos Krasic.
The CSKA Moscow winger was targeted earlier this summer, but wasn’t snapped up as Italian clubs are now only allowed to sign one non-EU player.
However, now that fellow non-EU passport holder Dzeko won’t arrive the path should be clear for the Serbian to join Juve.
