No, it hasn't, and for good reason. Had it failed, you'd also have used that same "but we haven't been using it" excuse. Just because it worked (after a weak opponent went down to 10 men) doesn't justify its continued usage, and the ditching of an existing system that already works. Perhaps we should vary it up, but with the players we have, 3-5-2 is the way to go. Our forward line is clearly our weakest link, and to compromise in other areas where are already strong would be a mistake, in my humble and honest opinion

We have 3 quality CB's that should be in the starting 11 (and I'm with Conte on this. I mean, why play Chiello as a LB when he's clearly better in the center?!), and a lack of clinical forwards to deploy a 4-3-3 formation.

Matri, Quag, Bendtner, and even Gio are all somewhat predictable and not prolific enough for us to utilize a 4-3-3 formation. Vucinic is the only one capable of creating something out of nothing in our attacking quintet.

Pepe might be more useful in a 4-3-3, but in no way should we compromise a working formation (3-5-2) to accommodate a couple of utility/bench warming players.

the main reason is because chiellini, bonucci and barzagli are perfectly suited to a backline of 3, i guess... i really can´t understand people who want to push chiellini to the left in a back four and play bonucci in the middle where he is obviously much less confortable. furthermore it just doesn´t make sence to play one of the top CB around out of position.
imo a back three with asamoah as lwb (even though it´s not his natural position) is way superior to a back four with either chiellini or de ceglie on the left.
i don´t get the hype around 433 anyway. obviously the 352 is more solid defensive wise and and i felt very disappointed with the attacking play in the derby before they went down a man. of course it´s just one game but somehow 433 fanboys are using exactly this single game to "proof" that 433 is great .

nevertheless i can fap to a 433 with vucinic - dzeko - giovinco up front but imo we would need a class LB for that. on the other hand this would mean benching bonucci, asamoah and reduce pogba´s playing time... can´t fap to that

i agree that 433 might (MIGHT) give us more attacking potential. but i just can´t understand why so many people are so sure about it. just because of ~55 good minutes against 10men of a recently promoted team? i think the 3:0 win (using 352) against the reigning cl title holder was far more impressive...

nobody says bonucci is perfect but he has been very solid this season + the last third of last season (where we were using 352 for the most part) and he is only 25... that´s nothing for a CB.

btw: maybe conte really is "as stupid as we are" because he obviously thinks of bonucci as a key player and recently said that 352 is our most offensive formation... fucking idiot, right?


just to make it clear: i would certainly welcome to test the 433 more often but NOT against donetzk in the upcoming game (as some guys suggested in the match day thread) + i can´t see where the hype is coming from... is it because the derby proofed anything? well it didn´t... is it because 433 is great in fifa? i just want to understand

if i remember correctly bendtner was preferred to matri against torino and quagliarella is ahead in the pecking order as well. furthermore conte preferred vucinic in the middle and giaccherini on the right to start the game... yeah, looks like matri has a really bright future with us in 433 ahead of him ^^

In a 4-3-3 Matri would be the best choice in the center of our attack. A little bit of confidence and he'll start scoring again.

But as it stands right now, Conte is ushing him towards the door. Doesn't mean Conte is always right 'though (Borriello for instance...).

I'm all for the 4-3-3, but not as the default formation. If we had the attacking players at Napoli's or even Inter's disposal, I'd be supporting it week in week out, but as it stand, our attack is extremely average and the 4-3-3 requires quality in the attacking third.
