Belgian Godfroid signs for Romanian club Rapid
BUCHAREST, July 22 (Reuters) - Midfielder Emmanuel Godfroid of Standard Liege signed a one-year contract with first division Rapid Bucharest, becoming the first Belgian player in Romanian soccer, a club official said on Monday.
'Godfroid is a Rapid player for a year,' Rapid general secretary Cristian Costache told Reuters. 'The contract might be extended by a year if both sides agree.'
Godfroid, 28, suffered a serious knee injury three years ago and has not returned to Standard Liege's first team since. Rapid coach Mircea Rednic, who played for several years in Belgium, arranged the deal.
'He (Godfroid) is now fully fit and able to successfully play for Rapid,' Costache said.
Rapid will meet Gorica of Slovenia in the UEFA Cup qualifying round on August 15 and 29
