Poor people are the most easily affected.

RIP and condolences to the thousands affected by this tragedy.

But I'm not so sure the world is coming to anything different than it has always been, though. It's not like the 1940s were Allah's gift to mankind either for that matter.

I was wondering when someone would mention this tragedy. Have a few "Westerners" killed by nature or a bomb and it will make the headlines for weeks. But if it's just a few thousands unwashed in some third world country killed through war, famine or an earthquake, you don't want to waste too much ink, do you. Though of course if there's ONE Italian who MAY be among the victims, then you'll be able to read about it right under the main title, like in today's Repubblica.

Anyway, enough with the rantings against human hypocrisy. My condolences go to all the relatives of the victims.
    That's what I said on September 11th 2004.

yea lahore has been pretty OK.what about mumbai?
the major casualties have been in the north and in kashmir.
and yep,i felt the tremors.i was sleeping and i woek up with a jolt.
though im constantly hearing stuff about karachi being in for a 8.2 quake in the coming days.a friend says that she heard it on CNN.
    8.2 is like..WOAH!!
and karachi is near the indian ocean which makes it twice as fragile to any natural hazards...but 8.2 could wipe the whole city off in seconds:down:
i hope the 8.2 thing is a rumour.
btw,can earthquakes be predicted beforehand..or their intensity?

Mumbai is way southwest of the occurings. So nothing affected the plates around this coastline. However, all that could change with a huge tsunami predicted at the end of this year. With an earthquake already hitting Karachi, I really wonder if all rumours hereforth are actually worth preparing for. Imagine a tsunami hitting us, man, we're all coast.

You and Libero can blow steam out your asses if this was not front page news in Belgium and Italy. That is unforgivable. There was no event in the world bigger than this tragedy and I can't believe your nations are not covering this.

Holy shit, did Pakistan's death toll really rise to 30 thousand? Think about how many people that is, and think about how many more are yet to be found. Terrible situation.

i don't think they can predict them accurately, because we've been predicted to have a major one here for years, at least thats what im told
There's an interesting though skimpy summary on wikipdeia:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquake_prediction

    Found this elsewhere:
The 1906 San Francisco earthquake was the deadliest ever.
FICTION: Though well known, the magnitude 7.8 San Francisco earthquake and ensuring fire killed 3,000 and razed large sections of the city. It was the most deadly in U.S. history, but that doesn’t make it the worst the world has seen, by far. The deadliest earthquake in recorded history struck Shensi province in China in 1556, killing about 830,000 people. The 1976 magnitude 7.8 earthquake which struck Tangshan, China killed somewhere between 250,000 and 800,000 people. In 2003, the magnitude 6.5 earthquake in Bam, Iran killed more than 40,000 people. The earthquake in Chile on May 22, 1960, is the strongest in the world with magnitude 9.5, and killed more than 4,000. For the record, the largest U.S. earthquake occurred on March 28, 1964, in Alaska. It was a magnitude 9.2 quake and took 131 lives.

We are now more than five thousand millions human beings.
And wars doesnt control human overpopulation. This planet is already overcrowded...
