I was wondering when someone would mention this tragedy. Have a few "Westerners" killed by nature or a bomb and it will make the headlines for weeks. But if it's just a few thousands unwashed in some third world country killed through war, famine or an earthquake, you don't want to waste too much ink, do you. Though of course if there's ONE Italian who MAY be among the victims, then you'll be able to read about it right under the main title, like in today's Repubblica.

Anyway, enough with the rantings against human hypocrisy. My condolences go to all the relatives of the victims.
Unfortunately you are completely right :(

Sebi, can you do me a favor? When you get out and see your friends at school, etc.. ask them what they thought about the earthquake.. note down how many people responded with a confused expression and ,"what earthquake?"

thanks..

yea lahore has been pretty OK.what about mumbai?
the major casualties have been in the north and in kashmir.
and yep,i felt the tremors.i was sleeping and i woek up with a jolt.
though im constantly hearing stuff about karachi being in for a 8.2 quake in the coming days.a friend says that she heard it on CNN.
    8.2 is like..WOAH!!
and karachi is near the indian ocean which makes it twice as fragile to any natural hazards...but 8.2 could wipe the whole city off in seconds:down:
i hope the 8.2 thing is a rumour.
btw,can earthquakes be predicted beforehand..or their intensity?

yea ill ask around if i remember

actually ive noticed a really scary pattern. every time i get REALLY wasted, theres a disaster in the world the next day. i dont drink that often, but i did the night before the tsunami, london bombings, plane crashes in italy, and last night :confused:

I have family in Islamabad, and by the grace of God they were saved. One of my cousins was at a hotel that morning taking the SAT's, when he says the entire buidling started shaking like crazy, everyone just grabbed each other ran to exit the building. His house was closer to the epicentre but was spared. Another cousins family is alright as well. His room has just a big crack in it.

All these earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunami's, landslides, typhoons, happened so rapildy within one year....it can't just be a coincidence.

i don't think they can predict them accurately, because we've been predicted to have a major one here for years, at least thats what im told
